She Always Collected Cows

After my sister passed, many of her things were passed down to me. I have them here and there in my home. I have her curio cabinet full of porcelain birds. That will be for another discussion. Nice to remember her with good memories. Unfortunately she passed on Christmas Day in 2012. She always liked the Holstein (black and white cows). We had the same taste with many things. And her kitchen had lots of her cow collection items. On her baker's rack, she had this cap, and other items I also have. Funny to think back on the days with her in the kitchen. She was an excellent cook. I learned a lot from her and she is missed every day. She was the oldest, four years older than me. I remember growing up, after my Mom passed, I would tell her, "you are not the boss of me". She just smiled and kept going. I look back now and I suppose she was the boss of me at the time. So good to have these memories to get us through. She laughed a lot. I try to do the same. Photo is mine.

I have three more sisters younger than me. We are close and love each other. Our mother is 85 now, alive and well. We try to build more memories up to now. I always wish that we come visit together often. I'm glad that you have fond and cherished memories with your sister that give you hope that one day you'd get to see her ( and your parents) again.

@CarolDM You're very blessed to have had such a close relationship. We were 4 in my family and none of us were close that I can remember ever. We still are not. It tugs at my heart strings that my brothers are so distant and dislike each other, as well as myself, so much. But you cannot force yourself on anyone, so I let it be.

I'm sure your sister is smiling down at you knowing you have such wonderful memories of her and that she laughed a lot. Funny how we don't think our older siblings. are the boss of us when we're young but when we look back we realize they were . I always hope that everyone has good memories of me when I pass.

I hope she is. I resented her for awhile until I matured and realized she was stepping in for my Mom.

@CarolDM That's the best kind of laughter. My daughter often goes into laughing fits like that. I'm glad your sister enjoyed laughter like that.

For years I collected hippos---glass, silver, metal---one in gold! When I hit the 400 mark I gave them as a gift to a friend--he hasn't taled to me since!!!

Memories are always the best and many things we have around the house often remind us of those who are not longer with us. My husband had a pet name for me Ruksis which is Piglet in English and it was a joke we shared that if anyone would get messy it would be me. When he passed it hurt me to look at all things pig I had but now I am a pig collector again and these items comfort me,
