Do You Know Me?

I've only been here a month or so, but I was wondering if you are able to associate a user with memories or from their posts.
Was there a certain amount of time before you started to understand people?
Many times I'll read something, and it's a post I can't contribute to in any way because of the inside life between a user and their cat.
Maybe some people came here because friends recommended them? Maybe they invited also brought people on.

I hope you are enjoying it here at MyLot.
I'm not quite sure I get what you mean when you talk about not being able to contribute to a post. Did someone write a post about the inside life between a user and their cat?

I didn't write that, lol.
If someone talks about .... a car, I won't understand or be able to contribute. If someone is talking about their girlfriend, again, I won't be able to contribute anything.
And in turn, a lot of people don't seem to know or at least the things I like, so I look for that small overlap and frequent the places where I interact the most.

@PinkFloydFan You could just say something like "I hope everything turns out OK for you" or words to that effect.

It does take a while to get to know people here, just as it does in off line life.
You kind of have to put in the work of getting to 'know' people.
I may read many posts before I feel I have anything to add.
You can usually tell when people are posting just in the hopes of making money.
Their posts have little, if any, real substance
Oher posts do indicate you need to have been following the person for some time to understand where they are coming from.
I have come across posts like that, and if it is really interesting, I'll go to that person's profile page and see if I can piece together the story from older postings.
However, some people have known each other for years, and they have understandings with each other because of that history.

There are a few frequent posters who I recognize, but not sure what they like to talk most about, but I'm sure that comes in time.
