My rose bush in Dustin's memorial garden is full of buds. The one in the photo was snapped earlier today. Almost blooming. Another day or so and it will be covered in pink blooms.
The first day of May brings hope for many things. A new month. New possibilities for better days ahead.
May 1st always reminds me of being in the 3rd grade in school. We called it May Day. And we would dance around the May poles that were covered in ribbons, in the gym. Anyone else remember this too?
Photo is mine.

No, I don’t remember May Day being celebrated that way. When I was stationed in Hawaii they called today “Lei Day,’ and all the civilian employees at my command wore leis. REAL leis with REAL flowers. I spent the evening getting a breathing treatment because it tripped my asthma off.

We never had a May Day Pole, but attending a Catholic school, I remember the month of May as being dedicated to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. We had a little shrine in our classroom that month. We would all bring in fresh flowers from our parents' flowerbeds for it. I loved to bring in lilacs. They have such a pretty scent.
May reminds me of my sweet Dad. His birthday would have been tomorrow, the 2nd. I think of him alot but more during May.
I love that the pink roses are in bloom and we will all be able to enjoy a picture of them in the days and weeks to come. They symbolize strength and hope for me.

Sadly roses don't do too well here
plus when they do grow there is very little aroma due to the heat!

It seems to be just a few of days before there is a dazzling array of flowers in your Dustin's memorial garden.

Our May Day in elementary school was where we would have a contest of where the person with the most pennies would be prince/princess or king/queen (king/queen was in the sixth grade) and other people in the class would have dances for the prince/princess and king/queen. I was the backup queen in the sixth grade.

That is such a pretty picture! I am glad the rose bush in Dustin’s memorial garden is full of buds. I pray May will be good to you.
And I remember dancing around the May pole in elementary school too. I know May is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The feast day of Our Lady of Fátima is May 13.

@aninditasen Sorry about your garden. Maybe a small one would be easier.

I do remember May 1st being called May Day. This year May 1st and May 2nd are new months for us in the Hebrew calendar. This week we have another Remembrance Day coming up and then after it is done we have our Independence Day. That is a special Day and people have picnics in the park. I am not sure they will have them thius year but do not know.

So looking forward to seeing pretty pink roses! How nice, May celebration! Locally, Hawaii has May Day Lei Day. There's an annual lei making contest by Mayor, with festivities. In grammar school, we had a May Day program, each class dances hula, wear leis & costumes.

In my country, back in my school days, May is still part of our summer vacation. It's more than two months vacation. School year ended in March and resumed in June. The pandemic changed all that though.
May is what we called the May flower. There's this catholic church event where children go there every afternoon with flowers and the children are given bread. My cousin would bring me along and I would go there for the bread not knowing that those bread were donated by my mom.

We never had Maypoles. I remember making flower crowns for the Virgin Mary's statue for a week or month of May.
