I have not been here as much as I had planned. We keep taking me out to eat to help me feel better.(So hubby says) So we went out Friday night to a buffet place called China Star. They had something different going on. At each bank of foods (five of them I think) they had signs asking guests to put on disposable gloves to serve themselves. There were plenty of boxes of food service type gloves. I am sure they are doing it to help people stay healthy. Bob and I were compliant. Not everyone was. No one really enforced it either. There was also hand sanitizer available. More people were using that, I think. Have you been to a restaurant that asks you to wear gloves when you serve yourself?

I have never been to a restaurant that requires me and my relatives to wear gloves as we enter the restaurant to get food yet.

This is just so you do not get germs on the serving pieces or get germs from others who have used them.

No, but I haven't been to a buffet for awhile. Actually, I was on the way back from Easter come to think of it., no gloves were apparent.

Buffet style eating is a dying art. Many of the places I know of that offered it closed down. When I would go to one of those places, they had tongs and or spoons to serve yourself. Whomever I'm with would help me. And, gloves are a more recent thing.

You are right, many buffets closed down in the last two years.

Have fun when you go. You save a lot of money eating at home.

There is a Chinese buffet that is opened in our city. We are not interested in going there. We like the food, but we question the self serve during this time.

When the pandemic first lifted I know of one Pizza Hut that had workers serve you from the buffet.

Nope but two weeks ago we had dinner at a buffet. Unlike before, we can't use the serving spoon to get our own food anymore. There's a server wearing a PPE and we just have to point at what we want and they just placed it on our plate.

No. All buffets I've visited had servers. I never used salad bars because people are nasty. There IS a farm store I visit that sells from bulk containers and they require gloves when you use the small shovels to scoop out the product from the bins. Some bins feed by gravity and no gloves are needed. I would be wary of a restaurant that allows self service by the customers for the same reason I don't use salad bars.

I get it. I remember when self serve soda fountains first came in. . . you would see kids walk over and put their fingers in the spigots and lick the pop off of them. . . gross.

@GardenGerty I have not been to a restaurant in ages so if I get food from a restaurant I take it home to eat. I do not know about the gloves. I understand why they ask you to wear gloves.

I have not had this experience. I am sure many buffets are doing this. Some will serve your food for you.

I haven’t been to a serve yourself restaurant lately. Our Sweet Tomato closed.
