Why overpay for no reason?

I was in the car with my mom and brother and he stopped at a gas station to fill up my mom's SUV (a Nissan Rogue lease). He got the highest grade of gasoline (premium or supreme). Paying with cash the price was $4.59/gallon while paying with a card the price was $4.64/gallon. My mom had cash on her but my brother decided it isn't worth it to pay with cash and had her give him her credit card. The total came out to around $64. I get that paying with cash wouldn't have saved her much—probably between $1 and $2—but why overpay even by a little if you have cash and can save? And why get premium gasoline when it's a lease?

My car requires supreme. Had to get it when I leased my 1st one and still have to get it now that I am buying it.

Leasing has nothing to do with wha type of gas your car use it’s the manufacture different gas do different things to the insides of the car depending on your car depends on the type you need not who you get the leased from they can tell you what type of gas to get but the manufacturer can so you don’t kill your car sooner

@ShyBear88 I don't understand what you are trying to explain to me. I use what the manufacturer recommends. I wasn't going to destroy a leased car with a lower grade of gas than what is required. I'm not going to destroy a car that I'm buying this time around.

@NJChicaa leasing mean who owes the car when you buy the car that means you’ve paid our right for it you didn’t go through a loan company a leased car is a car that is stilled owed by the load company or bank till it’s paid off. Manufacturing is who made the card and they leave instructions on how to care for the car like what all the button do, what the lights mean when they turn on your dash board down to the type of gas. Lease isn’t the manufacture. Ford, Honda, BMW those are manufacture.

Some cars need supreme and if you use normal gasoline you risk to created damages... that you pay when you bring back the car.

In that case, you have to choose whichever is required.

Weather the cars is leased or not doesn’t affect how much you pay for the gas the gas station controls that not the lease of the car lender. A lot of cards have cash back so he was probably thinking they one of her cards has a gas cash back when using card. I know with two of my cards like this weekend I used my PayPal card to buy something for Walmart I get 2% back when I use my card. I don’t get cash back when I use cash I get back whatever change but that’s it or pay it in fill. Also some gas station have loyalty programs or phone numbers that give a discount but only when you pay with card not with cash because you have to pay inside.

@lovebuglena the only way to know is to look at the card like pull up her account there should be something that says what percent or dollar amount spent you’ll get back. Gas with some of my cards can be as much as 5% precent. I get 3% with my bank card when I buy Starbucks which I usually don’t use my bank card for since I save up Starbucks card when I want Starbucks.

I was asking what the point is of putting premium gasoline into a leased car. Like why should it matter if it's premium or lower grade since it's a lease?

I forgot about the fact that my mom's card gives her cash back. I just wonder if her cash back amount will be more or less than what she would've saved had she paid with cash.

Apparently, the total difference in price is not worth it to him. Saving a buck or two is worth it to me.

With a lease, any damage done to the car the lessee is liable for the damage. (I believe the lease covers using the wrong grade of gasoline in the vehicle. It voids the warranty on the vehicle.)

Leasing has nothing to do with gas leasing has to do with the fact the leanding company you get load from is the owner of the car till you have paid off your lease to them. The type of grade of gas you get is based off of the manufacture which your car manual will state which type of gas works for that car. Most cars take regular but some do need the higher end gas because of what is inside of the car to make the car function. Like you can be regular gas in a diesel car it would kill it.

As far as I know (unless I am wrong) hubby always puts regular gasoline into his leased Toyota RAV4. I wonder why.

If the car requires premium, then that's what they need to get. Maybe your mom didn't want to use up her cash.

Nah. She handed cash to my brother. He told her to take it back and give him her card instead.
