Another noisy new neighbor. I did not call 911 yesterday.

I have written in the past about that guy who comes by, curses out one of my neighbors in the foulest language imaginable, and then leaves. I have called 911 on him a few times, but he's generally gone by the time they cruise through the complex. There is a restraining order on him, but he ignores it. I was told he is a pimp, and he thinks my neighbor, a prostitute, owes him money. Not my business. But I feel protective toward the kids here, and don't like it when the families have to stay inside. So now we have a new noisy neighbor. This one is a Tom (boy) turkey who has been wandering around the apartment complex gobbling at the top of his turkey lungs. Occasionally I can get him to display his tail feathers when I gobble back. I don't see any hens with him, so his gobble and tail feather mojo must not be working right now, but he's not giving up. Yesterday I took a photo of him behind my beloved truck, so I snapped the photo I'll attach. Do you have turkeys where you live? To me they are amusing birds, even if they are not at the top of the intellectual food chain.

I have a turkey that lives in the corner house here. Unfortunately our turkey isn't one you can cook for Thanksgiving

Nope..but I have seen some in the Zoo. Therefore, my tiny brain would say America is a big zoo, and Pony's apartment complex is part of it. Evil Grin.

@TheHorse I bet the bald eagle bribed its way in. I am glad our national bird is peacock. Everybody likes to see a peacock dance in the rain.

@vandana7 I think boy peacocks are like our boy turkeys. Just better at it.

I've watch male turkeys fight with their own reflections in car bumpers. They would give Donald Trump a run for his money in terms of intelligence. I've heard they were considered for our national bird. But the bald eagle got the nod instead.

That is one handsome turkey. I'd be proud to have him in my neighborhood. I am so over the jerks who think they can come into a neighborhood and spread their ugliness all over. We used to have peacocks for a while yelling "Leo! Leo!" Got rather tiresome. Glad they are gone now.

There are no wild turkeys here, but we have cuckoo birds and they are the most annoying birds in the world. I think I could kill them should I find where they are.

@TheHorse Have you ever heard a cuckoo clock? Their call is exactly the same and they go on and on all the day. When I work outside they drive me crazy.

Heh. He thinks so, I'm sure. The kids and I have been able to get a Tom (or maybe a Jake) put his feathers out next to the preschool.

Wild turkeys are much more intelligent than the ones we have domesticated to be food birds. They are also tougher and look scrawny, even though they can be powerful mean. Yes, we have whole flocks of turkey just off the roadside, looking for free range turkey food as we go zipping past in our cars.

There are turkeys where I live--a couple of times in my old neighborhood, a half dozen hens would go strolling through--no Toms, though.

They can be mean and territorial, too. When they don't want you around, you know it. I live by several small lakes and we have a ton of huge geese. They are fun to watch but they can get that way, too. They want their own space, and don't care if it's our space, they want it anyway. Plus, they poop a lot.

@TheHorse I think they need to have more regular 'harvest' of geese, they just don't ever leave. And when they take a walk, they leave poop everywhere, I clean it off my sidewalks, etc. I don't want to step in it and bring it in the house. I like watching them and the babies are adorable. But there are just too many of them now.
