"Norwegian Wood" was released in 1965 on the "Rubber Soul" album and was not release as a single. It was released as a single in Australia and reached #1. Written mainly by John Lennon, it was credited to the Lennon/McCartney duo.
"Norwegian Wood" highlighted the first appearance of a sitar on a Western rock recording and was influential in the development of raga rock and psychedelic rock in the mid 1960s according to Wikipedia.
Lennon wrote the song about a secret extramarital affair that he had in London. McCartney said that Norwegian wood referred to the cheap pine wall paneling that was in style in London at the time.
"I once had a girl
Or should I say, she once had me?
She showed me her room
"Isn't it good, Norwegian wood?"

It was also a play on words: “Norwegian Wood” can be heard as “knowing she would.”
