"Lady Madonna" was released as a single in 1968 and was written mostly by Paul McCartney but was credited to the Lennon/McCartney duo. In contrast to the prior 2 years of psychedelic experimentation, this song was more conventional. McCartney said, "Lady Madonna was me sitting down at the piano trying to write a bluesy boogie-woogie thing..." John Lennon assisted with the lyrics. The song is the story of an overworked mother who has a different problem every day of the week. McCartney realized later that he had forgotten Saturday in the lyrics. McCartney saw a photo in "National Geographic" of a woman breastfeeding, titled "Mountain Madonna"; and that was his inspiration. The song hit #4 on the US Billboard Hot 100. They wrote about many varied subjects. It seems they could turn just about anything into a song.

@marlina Me too. I wish I would have gone to one of their concerts when they were all still alive.

I liked the music not so much the lyrics, sad song. Madonna for Italians is the Virgin Mary.

@LindaOHio I have searched the "Mountain Madonna", surely the tile was given thinking to ancient paintings of the Virgin with her baby.

Another catchy tune from Paul who had so many. The only hit song with Madonna in the title until you guessed it Madonna herself came up with one.
