Howard Finster(Dec 02, 1916 - Oct 22, 2001) was an American folk artist and Baptist pastor. He didn't start his art career until he was 60 years of age. The thing I like about his work is that he covered nearly every inch of the canvas with his art and personal quotes. I like art that is busy and has a lot going on. He started a unique garden in Summerville, Georgia on four acres of land in 1961. He named it "The Plant Farm Museum" and, it is open to this day. You can read more about the Paradise Garden here: Photo is courtesy of Google.

He was a strange man. He claimed he’d been on spaceships and talked to aliens. But he was a hard worker and agood man. We visited his gardens occasionally an he was always working. He was painting Elvis one day when we were up there and he asked if it looked like Elvis. I said it did but everyone who has seen his art knows better.

To appease those types is a good thing I think. Maybe he did talk to aliens and had been on spaceships.

@celticeagle Who knows? Other people claim they’ve seen aliens.

I first heard of him when he did the album cover for R.E.M.’s album Reckoning. Later he did the album cover for Talking Heads’ Little Creatures.

The guy who had bought one of his "Tree of Life" paintings said it was soon after his purchase that the first album cover came out. He knew what that meant. I guess $$ speaks to some, I just like his art.
