Disappointed By The Bowling Ball

moon eclipse

The moon looked orange in the photos but white to the naked eye, so I added the black and white filter. I expected a red moon, but it seems like it doesn't happen during every eclipse or, if it does, it can last for a very short amount of time. At least I got to see part of the real thing, the eclipse: the moon looks like switching to a phase to another in a matter of minutes. The first and the last photo in the picture were taken about 20 minutes apart. Then I couldn't see anything else because of clouds. The stripes on the bottom left moon are in fact clouds. There the moon seems to have three holes which remind me of bowling balls, hence the title. What about you? Did you get to see what you wanted to see, or anything at all? And that's it. I could tell what the astrologers say about this lunar eclipse, but I don't feel like doing so. They speak of letting go of past stuff, something along those lines. Whatever. I plan to let go of this disappointment.

@Kandae11 Thank you! I went to see some photos and videos as well to have the "whole picture" of this eclipse. I was lucky but not too lucky.

We were lucky to see it pretty clearly right outside our back window! But I didn't take any photos . . . my phone camera doesn't usually pick up anything in the sky.

@much2say Thanks, I used a proper camera. It's a little old and doesn't have very powerful zoom, but it did the job.

@much2say True, the phone camera can be frustrating in this case. At least you could enjoy the eclipse in person.

I watched the eclipse, and it was spectacular. The moon didn’t quite turn red during the full part of the eclipse, but it definitely had an orange tint to it. We got really lucky, because it had stormed really badly several hours before the start of the eclipse, but by the time the eclipse started the skies were totally clear.

@moffittjc Yup, you were quite lucky! When I saw the eclipse in 2018 the moon was dark red for a very long time, and Mars was visible too (looked like Venus, a bright star). I was a fool to believe all lunar eclipses were like that one, which was known as "the longest lunar eclipse of the century".

@moffittjc It was July and took place in the afternoon in the US, so it's unlikely. The moon stayed red for long but it was way smaller compared to the other night.

@sabtraversa I’ve seen some pretty amazing eclipses, but I can’t remember if I saw the one in 2018. At least you got to see a good one back then.

My cousin messaged me while I was sleeping to see if I was up and out looking at the moon. I had forgotten about the red moon.

@Letranknight2015 You might be able to see the next one in November, I think this lunar eclipse wasn't available in Asia anyway, it was like 3 AM GMT.

Wow, those are really good photos. I guess sometimes the moon looks orange due to pollen in the air.
