I am reading my usual online stuff and come across an article about an indictment for moving fraud brought against two from Florida. Mathew Pardi, and Ashley Lynn Hars, are charged with wire fraud, interstate transportation of property obtained by fraud, and aggravated identity theft.
They set about eight fraudulent companies up online and did business for three years. They would charge a great rate upfront, then hold customers' belongings for ransom until they paid many times more of the amount originally given. It is said that these defendants obtained more than $12 million. They could be sentenced to as much time as 300 years and could be fined up to $6.25 Million.
A woman from here in Idaho was moving here from California and she had this fraud happen to her.
What will such as these think up with next?

That's terrible. I would have gone to the State Attorney General before I'd pay a ransom for my belongings.

We heard many such horror stories when we were preparing for an across the country move four years ago.
We chose to deal with a reputable company that had been in business for many years. Cost wise it was less that many of these fly by night operators were offering.

That's good. I'd sure do some checking before trusting any of them with my things.
