Work Being Done on Our House

Since last Wednesday we have had workmen at our house every weekday. It is exhausting to me. They are here every day at about 7:45 am. They stay until 2:00 pm every day. I stay up late and wake up late every day. I go to sleep around 1:30 or 2:00 am and wake up around 9:30 am. But when the workmen are here, it's too noisy so I am woken up at 8 every day. My husband is an early riser and gets up every day at 7:30 am so he greets them and lets them into the house if they need access. Most of the work they are doing is outside: repairing rotting wood on windowsills that are shaded and don't get the sun, repainting front and back decks, fixing slats in the decking that are coming apart, re-digging drainage ditches on either side of our driveway that have filled up with dirt, leaves and rocks over the past 8 years, trimming trees, etc. We have had a "to do" list for this company for the past 18 months, but they haven't gotten it all done. They would show up for a day, do a little work, then we wouldn't see them again for a couple of months. My husband finally had to call the owner of the company and say we were going to have to find someone else to do the work. That got things moving. I'm glad the work is getting done on the house and yard, but it's exhausting being woken up that early every morning. It's also emotionally exhausting having people in and out of the house all day. Our dog doesn't like it either. She is constantly barking and growling at everyone...just doing her job I guess. I am starting my day out very tired today. Not even the coffee is waking me up. Are you having a good morning or are you tired too?

It is very wearing having to live with the sounds of construction or repairing. They renovated the flat upstairs and it took them three weeks. Not a happy bear!

@Ronrybs Oh yeah, 3 weeks is a very long time. They won't be here THT long. It's just odd because they are intrusive without meaning to be...like replacing rotten windowsills which means they are at our windows and can watch us. And also fixing the door jambs downstairs, etc. It's awkward.

@marlina We will both be happy when they are done. But for the longest time, we were waiting for them to show up so I guess we should just grin and bear it at this point.

Thanks, me too, but it doesn't look like it. They haven't even started the painting yet. I guess I will need to try to fall asleep earlier so being woken up so early won't affect me so badly.

That does sound extremely frustrating to have all the work going on. Hope they stick around and get it all done so you can go back to a quiet life once again. I can never understand why companies start a job and then leave for a long time before coming back to do more. I want to have my upstairs painted but just the thought of all the commotion and confusion keeps me from doing it.

@Marilynda1225 I can understand why you are putting it off. I feel your pain..actually, I am living through it right now!

@Kouponkaren my daughters friend is having a whole remodel of the downstairs of their house. This has been going on since November of 2021 and they are living in the house during all this craziness. I don't know how they haven't lost their minds especially since it took forever just to get the kitchen done.

I can imagine the renovations are getting on your nerves. I hope they finish soon so you can go back to your normal routine.

@JudyEv Well we had a list of things we wanted them to do, including painting the railings on both decks. The paint started to peel last summer after the same company power washed the house. This morning it looked like they were doing some painting prep work on the actual house itself. My husband asked them why they were doing that and they said the whole house needs painting?! Um, it didn't look like it needed it to us and we asked for only the deck railings. The big boss, who we totally trust stopped by and he said the whole house outside needs repainting. It doesn't look like it to us. But, we may be looking to sell within the next year. Houses are going for big bucks where we live. So my husband agreed but said we needed to put it off until the Fall as far as the major house painting. We can't live like this for another week or 2 while they paint the house. We need a break from the intrusion. I am tired from waking up early every day.

Getting house repairs is easier said than done. Coordinating the work prices etc etc is hard work!

@db20747 My husband does all of that, fortunately. So I don't have to deal with that part.
