It's another Wonderific Wednesday here in the Neon Fun Jungle and this is as good a time as any to make this Public Service Announcement from the Department Of Public Safety that has been sitting on my desk since very early this mid-morning: ====== Never allow anyone but mature, responsible and careful adults, such as myself, to play with dangerous power tools. Such as power washers. ====== Coincidentally enough...Unless you don't believe in coincidences and you could be right about that. At least sometimes...I have an illustrative story that goes with the PSA. On or about sometime this forenoon, as I was power washing my push mower, I carefully lifted the springloaded guard flap so I could, even more carefully, wash under the deck, around the blade. That's when something odd happened. Some unseen malevolent force changed the angle of the wand so that the spray was hitting my right thumb. The injury was slight. Only roughly 400 layers of skin were removed, folded, spindled and mutilated. There was a bit of pain---Far less than usual because, as you know, I have the pain tolerance of 10,000 ordinary men. Also, as you well know, I'm a Gynecologist, not a Thumb Specialist. But I was forced to take a few courses on such unimportant body parts as thumbs in Med School and I remember some of it. So I treated the laceration myself. Starting with a Magikal Incantation---That sounds highly technical and difficult but really, it's just a string of appropriate words that I can't repeat here and with a little practice, anyone can do it. Strictly as a precaution, I followed up the Incantation with 120 fluid ounces of a popular OTC pain reliever, fever reducer, anti-inflammatory and infection preventer called Bud Light. Well, it's Over The Counter in most places but you do need a prescription in Kansas and Utah. So this story has the usual and expected happy ending. But imagine for a moment what it might have been like if it hadn't happened to someone like me---A highly trained competent medical professional who also happens to be a mature, responsible and careful adult. And that's the whole point. Don't let immature, careless and irresponsible people play with dangerous power tools.

I learned to use a chainsaw this year. It's so much fun! If you hold it carefully, you can tickle people and make them giggle!

@TheHorse My husband refuses to buy me a chainsaw. I had to manually sew some branches, it took forever.

@LadyDuck Chainsaws are very fast. It's one of their best features.

@LadyDuck You sew branches? Must be some mighty big women who wear your blouses.

I thought you were going to use a bit stronger pain reliever, a glass of Bourbon or Single Malt. Those things usually work. I use a power washer time by time, I try to be careful... but accidents may happen.

@LadyDuck They taste good, too. When properly served.

Bourbon and Scotch are effective but I have to have them mixed with something and there was no time for that.

I'm glad you turned the lawn mower off before you started experimenting with the dangerous tools... Raising that side flap when the lawn mower is still running can give you a really good bone bruise if you aren't careful enough. I'm glad you lived to tell the tale.

I don't like turning the mower off before washing it because it does a much better job when the blade is spinning. But this one has a bar that you have to hold to keep it running and it's too much work to tie it so that you can take your hands off the handle and still keep it running. They call it a safety feature. I call it a neendless inconvenience.

@DaddyEvil My mower has that bar, too. But it's easily defeated.

@xander6464 My mower has a metal loop that normally hangs idly off the handle. You just have to slide it up on onto the bar to lock that part of the handle so it runs without you holding the bar. (Maybe I shouldn't tell you that. I rather think your patients prefer you have all your fingers while looking them over.)

Dejavu is fascinating. There are many interesting things it could be.
