Do you go to bed even if your not sleepy yet?

It is my problem. I hit the pillow even if I'm not really sleepy. I thought if I just relax and close my eyes I will transition to sleep. I feel disappointed that I wait and wait for sleep to come but it does not come and another insomnia night. This past two days it helps me to sleep suddenly simply by tinkering on my smartphone while in bed. But it was just a shallow sleep. I just do whatever I like on my phone and it seems to relax me. How do you make yourself sleepy at night?

If I have been sleeping wrong for a few days (staying up too late, waking up too early), I'll take some over-the-counter sleep medicine before bedtime ... and 'bedtime' is important. The same time every night (to get your circadian rhythm set). You might try 'making that time at least 6 hours after your last meal of the day. And when you go to bed, DON'T TRY TO SLEEP. Yes, you WANT to fall asleep; but DON'T TRY TO, just close your eyes and rest for 6-to-10 hours. Let sleep come, if it comes.

@averygirl72 That's why I'll leave the TV on (usually a Bible-lecture or a stand-up-comedy show) when I'm ready to go to sleep ... something I can 'enjoy' with my glasses off. And I make sure to set the TV's sleep-timer (so it'll turn off after the show by itself if I'm asleep)

Yes don't try to sleep and don't focus on falling asleep and think something else and you will just fall asleep

@mythociate I fall asleep on front of the TV many times too. I find it relaxing lying while enjoying a show. I enjoy the sound of TV as a background but I cannot use it for sleep as my family members won't like the TV on when sleep time

I have a hard time falling a sleep and staying a sleep for a long period of time so I usually take sleep meds to help become sleepy and it usually helps me to get to the point to go to sleep.

@ShyBear88 I'm a good sleeper especially when I am younger. My insomnia just started just 5 years ago. I feel I lost my ability to sleep. Good thing even if I have a sleepless night I'm not so tired and the morning and I can still function. I only talk to my psychiatrist about sleep

@averygirl72 I’ve always had a hard time with sleep since I was little I wake often all of the time and usually fall back asleep. I’m usually so tired in general from being a parent I don’t have many tonight’s where I don’t sleep. The sleep bills I have are over the counter and I take them with a few other which also make me sleepy or help me fall sleep. If your a frequent insomnia it’s best to speak to a sleep specialist so they can give your the right kind of sleep meds.

My storyteller is YouTube. I need to force myself to sleep because the following day will be busy again.

Me too. I notice the less I think or worry about sleep the easier to fall asleep

@averygirl72 Indeed. We need to brush off any ideas before sleeping.

I actually will feel sleepy sometimes but can't get to sleep. Usually because something is on my mind and upsetting me. They say reading a book and creating a restful environment like a cool room can help. Although I dislike being too cool, lol.

I find that doing a simple activity like playing games or watching TV makes you sleepy easily. Try doing that, and you may find sleep comes easy too.

I think the more you effort to fall asleep the harder it will come. I just forget about obsessing about sleep. I focus my mind on making money and I notice I just fall asleep

@averygirl72 Ha ha, that's a good way of dealing with sleepless days.

I like to wait until I get tired enough before I try to sleep. Sometimes listening to a movie will do it. Sometimes doing nothing works just as well.

I meditate but it doesn't always work. I need to take melatonin if I really have to sleep.
