Cottage Cheese (thumbs up or thumbs down)

I've been trying to eat healthier and bought some cottage cheese. I had it a few times this week for breakfast with some canned peaches (in juice to cut down on sugar). It was a good enough breakfast but I've come to the conclusion that I'm not entirely fond of cottage cheese. Eating healthy can be a challenge especially for breakfast (for me anyway). Guess I'll be leaving it off my grocery list for this week and go back to my usual low calorie wheat bread with peanut butter for breakfast. Aside from my dog who loves cottage cheese, how do you feel about it??

I really like cottage cheese. Delicious by itself, dump it on a baked potato instead of sour cream, use in place of ricotta in lasagne, use in quiche, and so forth. My kids like it as a side dish for dinner, too.

My mother used to use in place of ricotta. Now she doesn’t use it.

I never tried it as many ways as you do. Never would have thought to use it in place of sour cream on a baked potato and I have quite a few nice size potatoes that I'm going to bake this week. Maybe I'll use up the rest of the cottage cheese on top of my potato. I've heard that you can use cottage cheese instead of ricotta for lasagna but since I love ricotta I never tried to swap it out. I have to say that my dogs like cottage cheese

@Marilynda1225 Well, cottage cheese is often on sale. I never find bargains on ricotta, and in lasagna cottage cheese works just fine. We do love it on a baked potato, too. I like to be experimental. It's fun!

I like cottage cheese. We don't buy it often because Pretty won't help me eat it so some of it always spoils. (I don't like the taste of cottage cheese and fruit mixed together, though.) If I have a choice, I prefer eating a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast. (Pretty's not happy when I eat that, though. She wants me to eat oatmeal or Cheerios for breakfast. I like those but not all the time.)

@MarieCoyle Yes, she's crazy... I'm glad someone else noticed that. We don't use a lot of salt when cooking and we don't cook with a lot of sugar. I like buying the sausage, cheese and egg sandwiches. If I buy too many of them, she gets upset. (She considers "too many" to be more than one. I buy eight of them and have them for breakfast eight days in a row, then don't eat them again for two or three weeks.)

It sounds like Pretty is wanting you to be healthy. I know that's important, but the occasional breakfast sandwich should be OK.

I have nothing against cottage cheese. I eat it on bread with jam on it.

I cannot eat cottage cheese. The consistency is just not for me. My Dad used to eat it on pineapples and grapefruit.

Cottage cheese pairs well with almost any fruit and pineapple seems to be popular. I'm kind of surprised that cottage is more of a favorite than I expected

If one consumes Cottage Cheese in raw form or Steamed and without frying, is it bad calories wise? I have a special attraction to Cottage Cheese, so I would recommend its intake in moderation perhaps. Wheat Bread with Peanut butter sounds good but may be you can try a few other things as good alternative.

I didn't have cottage until junior high . . . when in home ec we made lasagna with cottage cheese (had a weird after taste). Then Hubby introduced me to it with canned peaches when we were 18 . . . that was good but not something I'd want to have often. We put it in kugel . . . but it has cottage cheese, sour cream, lots of eggs . . . rich but good - but again not something we'd want to have often.

Yes but not nonfat kind.

I agree with you, the nonfat kind is gross. I would rather just eat less of the regular kind than that non fat type. Some non fat things aren't bad, but cottage cheese in that form is gross for sure.

I do like the flavour of cottage cheese and the text that it adds to dishes. I have not fried it on its own, it doesn't appeal to me because I use it in cooking instead. It is delightful in quiche.

I've never tried using it in recipes and have always just eaten it from the container. Maybe I should give it a try in cooking

I enjoy cottage cheese. Sometimes I'll eat it with salt and pepper and onion too. I almost bought some earlier in the week but I'd rather eat it when it's warmer in the house. Sounds silly I know.

I love homemade cottage cheese and the doctor has advised me to take it regularly which I don't. Cottage cheese increases your energy. I took some oats idli and fruit juice today for breakfast.

@Marilynda1225 That is great that your dog likes cottage cheese. Is the dog going through withdrawals since you have not bought cottage cheese and that you do not like it, so, maybe if you will not buy it again since you do not like it? I like cottage cheese but do not buy it that much. I have it for lunch when I buy it. I am with your dog that I like it.

I haven't had cottage cheese in a long time, but I use to mix it with apple sauce which made it taste much better. But like you not a real fan of it. Maybe switch out that choice for some cantaloupe or melon instead..

`i don't mind it. I haven't had any for ages though.

I love it was especially pineapple cottage cheese. Walmart has different brands of them. I wish pineapple cottage cheese comes in smaller packaging.
