My Tiny Garden Is Drowning.

I decided with the prices so wild, I should be growing good things to eat again. I had gotten away from this when I moved as I have such a tiny space in my back yard by my patio, but I decided to just do it anyway. Less to mow, so we dug a little patch. I have 4 tomato plants, all with blooms except one, that has two tiny tomatoes and blooms. 4 different kind of peppers, kale, carrots, squash. I may expand it or cheat and sneak veggies in my flower bed. I mean, it's mine, right? Who cares if I grow veggies and flowers together? I certainly don't. So as of Wednesday, I had everything planted that I had decided on so far. And Thursday, it rained quite a bit. Friday, it rained a lot more. Today, if it doesn't stop we are going to need a boat. I am afraid my little plants might drown! Then I will have to replant, and I don't want to. I hope it ends soon. So do any of you plant vegetables as well as flowers? I always used to have a giant garden, I do miss what it could produce, but it's too much for me right now anyway. If this little one survives, it will be enough.

My flowerbed in my front yard is also a garden patch. I also have veggies planted in pots on my front porch. We only get an occasional day without some rain lately. The plants are all taking it in stride, so far.

@MarieCoyle It gets cold here every time it rains, though. It was 47F at 6 am today. Our high only reached 63F.

Plants seem to love warm, humid days as long as they have enough water.

@DaddyEvil It was only 60 here today and I don't think the sun ever did come out. A friend had some extra cucumber plants and brought them over, so I planted them today. A bit muddy, but they should be fine.

My neighbor grows tomatoes. I hope yours survive the weather.

So do I. Hopefully no hailstorms. We've already had several, maybe that's all of them for the year. I hope!

I am sure your plants will survive. We had a lot of rain last year, but I had many tomatoes despite the rain. This year no rain at all.

@MarieCoyle Even if they are insured, the loss is high because they never get the real cost of the loss.

Gardening is like farming, it's all a gamble and you are at the mercy of weather.

@LadyDuck I know the loss of an entire crop can be heartbreaking.

I don't understand why you think you have to justify what you plant. If you like a mixture of flowers and vegetables, so be it! :-)

@MALUSE I have never been one to conform and be what others thought ''proper.'' I have to be me.

Some people around here seem rather, well, snooty about planting vegetables and think people with little yards shouldn't plant a bunch of vegetables. Too bad! It's my yard and I'm doing what I want to, it looks nice too.

I am happy because the sun is shining today, and it is not currently raining. The plants look good.

Before we plant vegetables with the old apartment we're renting because we have our own backyard. But right now, there's no backyard anymore. Cemented already.

@MarieCoyle Yes. That's correct. Although, I'm not the one planting vegetables. It's my wife passion.

@luisga814 Several of my grown children like to plant flowers and vegetables, I'm glad of that.

We have the opposite problem - it's too dry out here and our plants are thirsty for a swim! As long as plant combinations are peaceful to each other, then the vegetables and flowers are fine to mingle - why not. We're doing the drought tolerant stuff, but have lemon, tangelo and citrus trees - other than that no edibles because of the water shortage plus the soil might be questionable. I hope your garden thrives !

My mother used to have a couple garden beds growing up, but I never planted anything. My husband did help a neighbor plant some things outside her apartment.

I'm so sorry your plants are drawing, I hope they're not too sensitive to water excess. Please keep us updated.
