The Answer to Crime or no Crime

My sister called me this morning with the answer. She saw the neighbor working in her garden and went over to speak to her. She told my sister she had spent the night in jail and was released the next morning. The Sheriff told her she did the right thing, He was happy not to have to go pick up a body. But if the peeping Tom came to her window again not to hesitate. Shoot the-man and call his office, he’d take care of it.

A peeping Tom should not go peeking in strange windows.

@Vikingswest1 It's good that this comment comes from an American member. Peeping into windows is an offence which is punished with a fine I guess. How sick is it to suggest shooting?!

@RubyHawk She would be guilty of murder if she shot him outside of her house. Deadly force can only be used in a potential deadly situation. If the peeping Tom was just peering into a window, using deadly force is a crime.

My sister lives nearby. I hope they don’t have a crazy man in the neighborhood.

Funny that the Sheriff said to shoot the man. She has no right to use deadly force in the case of a peeping Tom.

@RubyHawk Not so much. What he could have done isn't relevant. If he made no attempt to enter, using deadly force is illegal.

Anyone is in harms way that has a-man staring in at the window. He could have broken the window in a minute.

Thank God the police encouraged her to shoot who I don't know and take care of the situation. Wish she is safe. Of course I don't agree to the idea of crime for crime.

You should never shoot someone outside of your home. They have to be INSIDE. Otherwise you could be charged with murder.

I don’t believe so if you’re following the sheriffs advice in this woman’s case where someone is staring at you through your window.

Shooting a man just for peeping from a window is a big punishment in my opinion.

@RubyHawk why could have he killed her? Was there any sort of enmity between them?

@sjvg1976 As I understand she didn’t know the man. He was a prowler looking in her window. He wasn’t caught. He was long gone when the deputy got there.

He could have come in and killed her but she shot the ceiling rather than shooting him. He should thank his lucky stars.

I've been thinking of getting one of those nanny cams for the outdoors around here. I've heard it's easy to link one to my phone so I can keep tabs on what's going one if I'm gone.

That sounds backward. He was glad to not have a body yet he told her to shoot the guy.

That advice doesn't sound legal. She would be arrested for murder if he was killed outside her home. If he comes inside her home, now that would be a differerent matter.

One way to keep peeping Tom's in place to teach them a lesson to respect the privacy of women inside of their homes.
