Sylva Police Department Officer Jacob Wauldrop who was off of the clock on Thursday heard the cries of a four year old boy who is autistic screaming for help. Officer Wauldrop as well as deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office as well as private citizens to search for the boy who walked away from his home earlier even though the exact date was not released by the police on their social media page. Officer Wauldrop saw the boy with water running on his shoulders. He jumped into the creek and he managed to rescue the boy to keep him to safety. The boy was taken to a local hospital to be examined for injuries due to his experience dealing with his adventure in the creek. The sweet part of this rescue is that the officer had finished his work in a court when he decided to assist his fellow officers to find the child.

Good job for Officer Jacob Wauldrop. He deserves to be lauded but not to be regarded as a hero for he is doing what others can do if they the chance.

That is most if not police officers have on record stating don't call them heroes at all.

Good they could get him out of the water. I wonder how he found his way to a creek.

The child probably ran away from his home due to boredom or being curious.

@RubyHawk You are right since the parents of my nephew who is a teen with special needs watch him closely.

@Deepizzaguy Probably So. Even younger children wander off.

Glad the boy was found and was safe but who in the world does not watch a 4 year old autistic boy carefully????

That is a good question since his parents or caretaker were distracted at the time he fled home.

I agree with you since I know many police officers who have stated that telling the parents of a deceased child are hard on the officer to handle since the loss of their child is very painful for them to handle.
