In 1892 American talent scout, recording engineer, and record producer Ralph Peer was born in Missouri. He is known for the first country music recording, Fiddlin’ John Carson’s disc "Little Old Log Cabin In the Lane"/"That Old Hen Cackled and The Rooster's Goin' To Crow". In 1927 while searching for talent in the southern states he recorded both Jimmie Rodgers and The Carter Family in Bristol, Tennessee which became known as The Bristol Sessions. This moment was the genesis of country music as it is known today. Peer passed on in 1960. In 1961 bassist Dana Williams was born in Ohio. Dana Williams from Diamond Rio originally known as The Grizzly River Boys. They had a number one single in 1991 “Meet Me In the Middle” and became the first band to have a number one hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. In 1969 Glen Campbell was at number one on the Billboard Country Album chart with Galveston. It was his 13th album. In 1970 Merle Haggard was at number one on the Country Album chart with Okie From Muskogee. The album won the Academy of Country Music award for Album of the Year in 1969. Haggard also won Single of the Year for "Okie from Muskogee" as well as Top Male Vocalist. In 1973 Dolly Parton came out with “Jolene” and the song became her second number one hit on the Billboard Country chart. In 1993 CBS aired Willie Nelson The Big Six-0: An All-Star Birthday Celebration with guests Ray Charles, Waylon Jennings, Emmylou Harris, B.B. King, Paul Simon, Travis Tritt, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Lyle Lovett, Bob Dylan, Marty Stuart and Kris Kristofferson. In 2000 Aaron Tippin came out with “Kiss This” his first single from the album People Like Us. The song was co-written by his wife and it became his third and final number one on the Billboard Country chart. In 2004 Rascal Flatts was at number one on the Billboard Country chart with their “Mayberry” their fourth and final single from the album Melt. In 2011 Reba McEntire was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame at a Medallion Ceremony that took place at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. She was inducted by one of her musical idols, Dolly Parton. In 2015 The Zac Brown Band was at number one on the Country Album chart with their fourth album Jekyll + Hyde and was their third number one album on the Billboard 200 chart.

Hooray for Ralph Peer! I’ve been to the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol Tennessee/Virginia, and it was like being a kid in a candy store for me. Most people would probably find it boring, though. Funny thing: the Gatlinburg Bridge Walk gift shop had a car sticker that said, “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene.” And now we’re here talking about Dolly and that song!
