Another endurance ride on the weekend

On the weekend, we attended a horse endurance ride in Western Australia. We took a lot of photos and they are now up on our website for the riders to purchase if they want to. Here are four photos from the ride. The morning started off very cold and very foggy but later the weather became much warmer. It rained either side of the ride day so they were very lucky with the weather. You can see how foggy it was in the top two photos. The horse top left is 20 years old and is starting to show his age. He was only asked to do the shorter ride but he managed it really well and even pranced about when asked to trot out for the veterinarians after the ride. The horse in the lower left photo is an Arab. His tail has been plaited and he was quite excited before the ride. Lower right is another Arab but a much more experienced one who has been to a lot of rides. She actually came close to losing her life in the terrible fires that ravaged part of our state several years ago. Her owners have devoted hours to restoring her to full health.

The horse top left is an old boy but I am sure he still like short rides. I am so glad the Arab horse could be saved from the fire, she is so cute.

@JudyEv I think the longer rides are good for younger riders and younger horses.

@LadyDuck They can work up to longer rides and also decide if endurance is what they want to do or not.

The shorter endurance rides are interesting for the horse and the rider. The longer ones are too I guess but there is more stress involved.

Oh yes, I remember reading about the devastation that fire left Australia with, I'm so glad they were able to restore her to good health. The horse with the blazed face is a beauty as well.

I noticed that. So is the one on the lower left and it looks like he loves to show off.

@rebelann When I was first choosing photos, I thought I'd picked the same horse twice but they're different. But yes, both seem to be saying 'look at me'.

Thanks. There were fewer riders this time - only about 30 all up. We have a lot of people with covid at the moment which seems to be impacting on many things.

I was thinking he was an older horse. Glad he is still feeling so good. Love the grey Arab. Glad they were able to save her

They had a terrible few months trying to get her healthy again. Much of the problem was smoke inhalation.

Thanks. The area is known for its fogs. It's in a bit of a valley.

I've written a lot about them in other posts. Basically, the riders can choose to ride 20, 40, 80 kms in a day and at some events they ride 160 kms (100 miles) in the one day. I'm glad you like the photos.

What beautiful horses. You take such wonderful photos. How wonderful that the Arab was not injured or killes in that awful fir.

It took months before they were sure she'd be okay. Breathing in the smoke and hot air caused a lot of problems.

The horse with the plaited tail looks proud. Ha, imagine a human being called old at 20.

He is very proud indeed. Some horses just seem to know they look good and they show themselves off to whoever is watching.
