There Was A BOOM

Yesterday was Victoria Day in Canada. We celebrated with family (everyone within an hours drive) with a campfire, barbecue and fireworks. Several years ago my brother built a cannon. He brought the cannon from Ontario when he moved to Nova Scotia a few months ago. Yesterday was the first time it was fired at his new home. One of my brothers set off the inaugural blast. When asking for volunteers to set off the second blast all the men wimped out. I put up my hand and a few moments later….. BOOM!!!!

I didn’t know that I wanted to fire a cannon, but I definitely was on a bit of a “high” afterwards. I’d do it again if given the opportunity.

@Morleyhunt I think some people would say it's the power of doing it but I'm not so sure about that. I think it's just having fun lol

You're too brave. Cannon? It reminds me of my kid's days. Every year I join my peers to play with bamboo cannon especially when New Year's comes nearer. We cut a fresh matured bamboo in 4 feet long. Remove its partition inside and leaving the other end enclosed. Make a small hole 4 inches from the last node. To fire it, we place some kerosene inside the hole then put some air by blowing the the hole. When we feel its enough, then we light a stick and place it on the aperture of the hole. Boom goes the deafening sound.

It was a deafening sound. It wasn’t something I expected to do, but I would do it again.

We had a lovely day. And firing the cannon brought a smile to my face. Thanks to my sister-in-law for taking a picture for me.

You’d probably enjoy it if you tried it. It’s a Boom. Nothing but gunpowder….no cannonballs, (or potatoes, or apples, or small pumpkins) Just think of the things you could launch into the “back 40”.

The neighbours were invited. One of them fired a shot as well. No complaints that I was aware of.
