I mentioned before that the girls and I joined the local amateur dramatic society and were in the village pantomime.
Now the group are busy rehearsing for a summer concert, mainly of songs from musicals plus a few other favourites.
One of the songs we need to learn is ‘Time to Say Goodbye’ which we were introduced to the other day. The snag is that although many of us were familiar with the song, in a vague sort of way, nobody knew exactly how the words were supposed to fit the music. There seemed to be too many syllables!
The situation is not helped by the fact that some people have song-sheets with just the words, some have the words set to music. And the lyrics are full of spelling mistakes, breaks in odd places, and other issues.
To help us out with the rhythm, the musical director suggested we think of the sequence ‘Cucumber cucumber apple apple’
That seemed ok to start with, but then he expanded it to something along the lines of ‘Cucumber cucumber, apple apple, cucumber jam, cucumber umber, cucumber jam, apple cucumber umber apple’
What?
If we had trouble remembering how the words fit the music, we would have even more trouble trying to remember a random sequence of vegetables and how they fit the music! And it wasn’t even as if the sequence was applicable to every verse, it only helped with one verse!
By this time we were all thoroughly confused. Just tell us how the words fit!
It’s going to be a miracle if we can produce something presentable in about a month more!

@Fleura probably easier to sing in italian if you have the words in front of you ;-) even if you dont know what they mean
