Our troughs have had a make-over

I wrote some time back about picking up some troughs from the Council verge pick-up. Vince has now painted the inside of these with bituminous paint to stop any more rust. The outsides have also had a new coat of paint.
We have put plants in pots rather than filling the troughs with dirt. All the pots hold the same type of plant at the moment but we’ll get some different varieties soon. The troughs are against a brick wall and it is actually quite hot there when the sun shines on it. However, the plants are succulents so they should cope with a bit of heat.
The troughs aren’t cheap to buy new but, for the cost of some paint, they look good now and should last for years.

Looks like new troughs! Succulents look so nice! Repurposing is very good, like a thrift store.

Me too. Got this from our bulky items pick up area. I added tennis balls for safety. Cleaned it up sanitizing it and looks good as new!

@oahuwriter That does look good. People throw out some really nice things from time to time.

So we're these troughs new or used ones? The plants do look nice in them.

Vince did a good job there with the painting and the trough looks like new one. I think that you did the right thing by putting the pots in the trough rather than dirt. That would be better in the maintenance of the trough. It all looks neat and those succulents do well in harsh summer too

Thanks. The bugs got my last lot of seedlings but I'll get some more soon.

The succulents look happy. My balcony garden has a balance of succulents and edibles. I just planted some corn and beans yesterday. I like the contrast between the green of the plants and the red brick. Kitty says you should put some water in those dishes on the ground.

Kitty is quite right. Actually, it has rained since I took the photo and they are now full of water.

If you didn't say,I couldn't think it was a secondhand trough.

Thanks, yes and the bitumenous paint will stop any more rust.

! I would love to have several of those but they really are expensive. I hope your succulents enjoy their new home!
