Let me share a fun fact about 'Asin Law' or Salt Law in my country. It may sound weird but it was not. The people in the Department of Health (DOH) in the Philippines are encouraging the locals to eat foods with iodized salt. I do not want to elaborate on the effect on people because most of you knew them. According to this post, if you have them in your system, you will not be dumb. Do you find it silly to have this kind of law?

Too much iodine can cause some of the same problems as too little iodine in a person's diet.

Indeed. It is not so clear how can people use this iodized salt. The higher-ups are not thinking about this matter.

We too use iodized salt. The common salt used earlier is no more available in the Indian cities and towns.

In my country, we still have rock salt. But then, the DOH is still encouraging the people to have the iodized salt.

@Shavkat If you have the rock salt it's good to take it. Too much of iodized salt is not good for the eye sight.

@aninditasen Iodized salt is too salty, so I prefer rock salt in cooking.

@May2k8 Most people who are living in the mountains usually have goiters. That's the reason why they are encouraging us to use it.

If the community as a whole is low in iodine then this is a good idea I guess.

I think it is best to have the awareness part than having a strict law, which is not clear if there is a punishment.

Sound funny. Do we need to have this kind of law? What if I don't want to eat iodized salt, what's my punishment?

That's the point. I find it weird for them to have this law. I haven't seen the possible punishment for not using it. I wondered if the Director of DOH proposed this.

@Shavkat Although we're using iodized salt. However, how about some poor people out there. Mostly iodized salts is not that cheap price. So, what if you can't afford to buy?

@luisga814 You have a point. I still prefer the rock salt when cooking something in the kitchen department here.

Sounds funny. In Hong Kong, we have a Committee on Reduction of Salt and Sugar in Food.

At least, it was not amended to be a law. Unlike this one, I find it really funny or even silly to have such a law.

Iodine is important for health as a deficiency of it can cause goiter. We should always eat iodized salt to compensate it.

I will not wonder why you think that way. It is really a funny thing to have this law implemented here in my country.

Everyone needs a little salt. But you can eat too much.

I think I do not want to eat with it that much. I feel sorry for my kidneys if I do.

Well, common folks may not understand the intricacies of hyperthyroidism, where one of the major factors is lack of iodine. My father had it at his childhood.

I do agree with that matter. But it is not a good thing to have this law. It is vague about the possible punishment if there is. Why not just have a program for iodine awareness.
