Our apt home, has fire alarms. Today was fire alarm test day. My Resident Manager, was around, spraying... something. He came a knocking, reminding us, si no panicking happens. He began spraying, and explained Pinesol spray to keep cats away. Well, a cat's been leaving unwelcomed gifts for me, so this really good tip, was just what I needed. Though I went shopping, I'd not planned to go to Walmart, for Pinesol. Weather permitting, Walmart, tomorrow for Pinesol.

Spraying plain vinegar around does the same thing. You would have to spray again after a rain, though. (The vinegar smell goes away after a couple of hours for a human but cats will still smell it until it gets washed away by the rain.)

Me too! So many people I know don't like it, but I've always appreciated the freshness of the scent - everything 'smells clean' - maybe it is good to dilute it so it's not overpowering but I have always associated it with a good feeling.

Thats odd. I haven't know cats to be smart enough to avoid areas that use pinesol, hmmmm, something for me to think about.

Yeah, people really shouldn't let cats roam loose, they're a threat to wildlife.

I guess odor too strong, so they don't come around. Cats ok, just don't like unwanted gifts they leave behind.

Good and valuable tip. I will look around here. Cats are also leaving me unwanted gifts. They aren't ours but they like to leave their trash in front of the house.

It's a bother, these unwanted gifts & mischief cats do. White vinegar seems to work and it's keeping termites away too.

@DaddyEvil is right, spraying plain vinegar does the same and it is less expensive.

Hope it works. I would not like those unwelcome gifts from the cats either. I have cat phobia and I am not comfortable when they are not around.

Cat's wonderful! I don't have any. But sometimes cat leaves unwanted gifts. We're no pet apt.

@oahuwriter I admire them from a distance. I had a bad experience twice with cats attacking me when I was a young girl. It instilled a fear in me. I freeze when I see any cat close to me.

I hope that the pine sol works for you. I alternate using pine sol and lemon scented lysol to mop the floors with. They both work well.

Great! I thought I'd try white vinegar first for it stops both termites and the cat unwanted gifts. So far, good, it works.
