Elvis recorded "Jailhouse Rock" for the film of the same name in 1957. It was written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The premise of the song is that: "The warden threw a party in the county jail. The prison band was there and they began to wail... ...Everybody in the whole cell block Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock..." The Shifty Henry that is mentioned in the song is an LA musician, not a criminal. The Purple Gang was a real mob. The song hit #1 on some of the US charts and #3 on the US Billboard Most Played Country & Western Singles. Photo Credit: Wikimedia Commons

A hunka-hunka burning Elvis! A true classic. (Loved the way The Blues Brothers closed with their rendition of this song.)

@LindaOHio — my putting coach says The Blues Brothers is the greatest movie ever. I counter that Blazing Saddles is.

@FourWalls I think I've only seen Blazing Saddles once...Blues Brothers about 1/2 dozen times.

Elvis was the best rock and roll singer. I loved all of his songs.

That was a terrific Elvis movie before he had to make some really lousy ones. The dance scene in the jail was fabulous And this song wasn't even the King's biggest hit that year. That honor went to "All Shook Up."

@LindaOHio One of Presley's first movies. He was only 22 at the time.

This was such a radical song when it first came out.

Yes; and it had some lyrics that were questionable.
