A Peek In The Kitchens?

Do you ever wonder what goes on in the kitchens of your favorite restaurants? If you are a fan of street food, before taking that first bite - do you ever wonder if proper hygiene was employed in it's preparation? Today June 7 is "World Food Safety Day" , a day designated annually to " draw attention to and mobilize action to detect and manage food borne illnesses. According to the World Health Organization( WHO), an estimated 600 million people fall ill every year ( world wide) from eating contaminated food- and 420,000 die. We can pracitse food safety at home by - among other things - washing our fruits and vegetables with soap and running water. Have you ever fallen ill after eating contaminated food or drinking a beverage? Pixabay image

@Kandae11 I believe that. It seems like seafood gets bad pretty quickly . . . that's one food category that needs to be absolutely fresh. Wow, if that many people got sick in one restaurant, that's really bad - dangerous actually.

I have noticed that seafood seems to be the main culprit when patrons get sick. Some years ago about 49 people came down with gastrointestinal problems after consuming a fish dish at a restaurant. The name of the restaurant was never mentioned in the press.

I wonder too much what goes on in the kitchen of restaurants. This is why I am not going to a restaurant from more than 4 years.

@Kandae11 My cousin is a chef, he has his own restaurant, even the cleanest restaurant kitchen has some little secrets.

@LadyDuck. Restaurants like other businesses are in it to make money. I always wonder if a rat or mouse is found in a bag of flour , or rice or sugar - would they throw away that entire bag? Some might, others might not.

I had food poisoning once and thought I would die. It was so painful I wanted to. That was years ago. That may be why I don’t like to eat in restaurants.

I guess it would be a very frightening experience - not knowing what the outcome would be.

Not that I know of, some things like restaurant kitchens and so forth, I don't really think I want to know about.

Luckily I have not ever been food poisoned. It must be horrible and deadly even.

I do not believe that either of us has ever become sick to our stomach as a result of something we've eaten. We have gotten headaches as a result of some foods, high in sodium, and some foods give my hubby heartburn.

Yes some foods do not agree with some of us, but food contamination is another aspect. Thankfully you have never had that experience.

Only one time in my life did I get really bad food poisoning and that was from a McDonalds near my university ages ago. I late learned they were inspected and were not cleaning their frying oil. Then they got renovated and everything was just fine,

The inspection process must have been lax somewhere along the way, but l am glad they cleaned up their act before more people got sick. Must have been an awful experience.

Yes, a few years back, I was not feeling well after eating Tuna sandwich which I bought from a shop. After vomiting, I felt okay.

You must have ingested one of the over 250 bacteria one can get from contaminated food. Good that it wasn't serious. I remember feeling terribly nauseous after consuming canned mango juice. Since then l have never bought juice in a can, l prefer the natural fruit.
