This morning, about 7 AM, I heard footsteps on my roof. That could only mean one thing; the roofers were here! I rolled over and went back to sleep once the “big noise” ended. When I woke up a little before 11, they were gone. They left me a new roof! I’ll raise of glass of tea to that! Someone else might want some alcohol, so here’s the next song — which Greg sort of wanted — on the list of favorites with an alcohol in the title. #3: Whiskey River - Johnny Bush I say “sort of” because he was expecting the Willie Nelson cover. That’s right, cover. Willie didn’t write this. When I saw him in 1984 he opened and closed with this song, but it’s not his (although he made it his own, as he usually does with most songs he didn’t write). No, the late, great, Johnny Bush wrote this and first recorded it five years before Willie’s 1973 rendition. It was on a little Texas label called Stop. In 1972 RCA picked it up and released it, making it a pretty good-sized hit for Bush. And we all know what happened once Willie did it. Pure Texas honky tonk.
