Classes are almost over

Next Monday is the last scheduled day for class work in Driver's Ed. It is a good thing too. These young people have added this to other summer activities and it is beginning to wear on them. Of the eleven kids yesterday, about five of them ended up putting their heads down on their desks. One of them stayed home sick today. I nearly fell asleep several times and one young lady fell very sound asleep. The teacher walked over and touched her elbow, and spoke to her several times. She was really sound asleep. There is no air conditioning on in the building. It is not too bad, but the air is still and stale. A fan or two would seriously help. I know it will be good for me to stay at home and get stuff done. The students will have about a week of driving practice left. They have been doing some driving with another instructor in the mornings. Well, guys, I am sleepy. It is early, but I am going to bed.

Rooms were not horribly hot, but the stuffiness adds so much to the drowsiness. Waiting today, Thursday, to hear about the MRI.

It's a shame they can't install a couple of fans. It's not much to ask really and would make such a difference.

It would just be like box fans, but this is not even the school this teacher normally is at. The students are free to go to the restroom, walk around, get a drink. I think like many teenagers they are doing a lot. My student came in on the last day with slightly sunburned arms. He had been helping put up fence on the family farm. No wonder he sometimes is tired.

@GardenGerty Some of them possibly have jobs too. When I was going to school on the bus, two of the littlies would go to sleep on the way TO school as well as on the way home. They had to catch the bus really early.

Summer vacation sounds like it'll be good for some of these kids.

A fan to move the air is surely better than nothing. Stale still air is terrible in summer.

I know all will be happy when classes are over. Will they all pass their drivers test?

I am sure they will all pass this class and then it is on them to take the state exam. They all passed the hand book test and got the permit required to practice drive with the teacher. These teachers are good at explaining what the kids must do. They had to be present for all the classroom sessions, pass the handbook test and four unit tests with 80 % or better and have ten hours of driving practice, divided over five sessions. If they did not pass the unit tests they had work packets and another try. Different test.

@GardenGerty I remember when I got my drivers license. I was afraid I’d have to take the test again but I passed.

It is to bad that no one buys a couple of fans for the class room. I remember one year in Colorado I bought at wholesale twenty fans for twenty classrooms and took them to the school. There is no reasons for any child to sit in a hot room.

This room did not belong to this teacher. I imagine the regular teacher has some fans. In our school our rooms all have extra fans. The students could get up, walk around, get drinks, eat snacks, but they are pretty tired from all the busy schedule.

A stuffy room is not conducive to learning not to mention your health. Fans are as cheap as chips these days even a small portable air-conditioning unit is not too expensive.

They just shut the a/c off for the summer but it so happened this one room had ten days of class. When turned on the a/c works really well.

It was always so hot in school with no AC. I'm surprised any of us could stay awake.

During the actual year there is a/c, but to cut costs they shut it off in the summer and the custodians and maintenance people start the freshening up process.
