Well, we broke a 69 year old record

That's right, Austin broke the 69 year old record for the highest temperature for June 12th. In 1953 it reached 103º F (that's 39.4º C.) Today it reached 105º F (40.5 C.)
This is why people should not come to Texas in the summer time...
We know we can handle it, but remember, society nearly broke down in February 2021 when we had 144 hours of below freezing. It is just a good idea to not come to Texas in the summer or the winter. Best time? March, then you'll probably catch the blue bonnets!

It does rain. Often either August or December we get the most rain. It is kind of El Nino or La Nina thing, that controls which month we get the most. Back in 2011 we broke the number of days above 100º F (that 37.7º C) in a row by having 90 of them. The previous record had been in like 1921 with some 60+ days, like 63 or something... March is generally when you'll see the most wild flowers, the blue bonnet is the State Flower. In 1983, after months of abnormally high rain, we had a storm "park" over the flood plain of Shoal Creek.

@RubyHawk yeah, a few years back the two variable level lakes were the lowest they had been at in over 50 years. On... in... one of the lakes they found the remains of a missing lady. She had been murdered, stuffed in a barrel, the barrel filled with cement and dumped in the lake.

I was in Texas in March 1998. The bluebonnets were lovely, especially when set off by the Indian Paintbrush. I guess to be politically correct I should call them Indigenous People Paintbrushes. Anyway the red and blue together growing all along the drive were lovely. We went to Texas for our honeymoon.

There’s a guy on the WeatherBrains podcast who lives in Austin. He said he basically got a new house for his deduction (I think he said $3,000) after all that damage caused by the ice storm in 2021.

@kaylachan yeah... I have fibromyalgia and I can tolerate cold better than heat - not that I can tolerate below freezing, but 40 is better than 90...

@ElicBxn Yeah, I know. It's not exactly fun, and quite frankly, more heat isn't always better.

No it isn't easy to stay cool. I have fibromyalgia and the heat really makes the pain worse, so I do my best to avoid it. I stay inside, though I remembered I probably needed to put water out for the dogs, and their bowl was empty, but not quite dry. I filled it.

@RebeccasFarm yeah... pretty much hiding out again this week - did get the cat boxes done early... I've been "scooping" the litter and, while I had been resistant, I figured out a way to do it easily and - wow - is it better. I only completely replace the litter in one box and that is the one in the front room because the roommate spends time in there watching TV.

Even though I have relatives who live in Texas, my relatives are happy here in Southwest Louisiana which is about 35 miles from the Texas border westbound.

Fall is also a wonderful time in Texas. It's my favorite time of year. Though it's gone in a heartbeat.

@ElicBxn Yes, I don't blame you at all. It's 10:30 at night and still 95 degrees.

And your springs and summers are our falls and winters. I will not complain about our winters. I mean, the last time we had a winter like 2021 was in December of 1983. That was the record broken by the 144 hours of below freezing, in 1983 it was 140 hours.
