Washington Commanders Defensive Coordinator, Jack del Rio was fined approximately three days ago for comments that he made in reference to George Floyd and the Capital Riots.
I'm still not sure what he said because even as I read the ESPN article, it doesn't say. Just that the Capital Riots was referred to as a dust up and compared to the George Floyd protests.
$100,000 later and quite a few press releases later and you still don't hear about it.
I don't even see what he said.
Washington has made it clear that Rio's views do not reflect the team and all I can do is say duh.
The opinion of one does not mean it's the opinion of all.
However, there was one thing that Rio said that kind of stuck with me.
"I express myself as an American; we have that ability. I love this country, and I believe what I believe and I've said what I wanted to say. Every now and then, there's some people that get offended by it."
We all have views as individuals and lately we've been scared to express them because we'll offend someone.
Some of the best changes though have come in the midst of controversy.
No one should be scared to have an opinion, even if it's not one that is widely accepted.
You can have your opinion and if someone doesn't like it then you can debate about it or make your arguments. Sometimes people will change and sometimes you just see another view.
I don't think Rio should have been fined but it is what it is and he seems to be able to live with it.

Yes, it's very easy to offend people with your opinions.

It's very true. I remember that there was a time when a difference of opinion would spark a debate. Now people get offended and instead of a debate there's name calling and insults.

@JordanLader Yes, exactly. It's really bad. It's a shame we can't have different opinions without fighting about it.

When you're opinion is based on personal bias instead of reliable information, perhaps it is better to keep your opinion to yourself. Del Rio said, “I can look at images on the TV, people’s livelihoods are being destroyed, businesses are being burned down, no problem. And then we have a dust-up at the Capitol, nothing burned down, and we’re going to make that a major deal."
First, he lied about the damage and destruction being no problem. Where the perpetrators were identified, they were arrested. Often, it turned out that it was white-supremacist agitators or the cops themselves smashing the windows and setting the fires, as arrest records prove.
Second, the "dust up" at the Capitol was a violent attempt to overthrow the US government and establish a fascist dictatorship with Trump as the dictator. It was planned and coordinated at the highest levels of Trump's administration, led by him, and included most of the GOP members of Congress. Hardly a "dust up."
