Are you or have you ever been an insecure person? How did you get rid of this feeling? What attitudes did you take and what would you advise me to take? I hope to hear your stories of overcoming. I'm at a point in my life where I've been greatly damaged by insecurity and need to get back to having confidence in myself, my abilities and capabilities. I believe that we can be an inspiration to each other, especially in this world where I have the feeling that we are more and more alone. I believe that I am not alone in this and that thousands of people are feeling the same way. Hearing words of understanding and good advice can help a lot. I would like to thank everyone who takes a moment to answer.

I also have insecurities but I have improved in them by accepting how I am. I realized that nobody is perfect and we all have insecurities and things we don't like about ourselves but it depends on how you deal with it. I used to judge people according to how they look but if you get to know people better you will realize we all have a good side and a bad side. You just choose to look at the positive part of things or the good things about others. Nobody is perfect we all have issues!

Take things one day at a time. Don't be afraid to ask or help. Not just from online communities like Mylot, but from people you can have face-to-face, physical contact with.

When I feel insecure, I usually count my blessings: the roof over my head, my health, the shirt on my back, food on my table, and countless things around me that would show how truly blessed I am. When you learn how to appreciate yourself and the small blessings that you have, you would learn to be more self-confident and secure. I also don't compare myself with other people because they have their own pros and cons as well. Each person no matter how disadvantaged he/she is will always have something positive in him/her. The secret is to find these things in yourself. So, in short, you have to learn to be thankful, appreciate and love yourself. This may not be what you want, but my insecurity has greatly diminished by listening to the lyrics of my fave band - BTS. You may want to read their lyrics as well. Many of their songs are inspirational that could give you more strength to become self-confident by loving yourself. Here's one of their songs. I do hope you'll read the lyrics up till the end.

I have been insecure at various times in my life, but I have found that my insecurity comes from my overthinking a situation too much. Insecurity comes from your mind, when you let your heart stay behind the mind, instead of in front of your mind. This then allows uncertainty ( or insecurity) to be alive within you, and it can only be gotten rid of by your returning to heart-led living.
