Simple Dinner Tonight 6/16/22

Despite inflation, while the price for a 10 pound bag of potatoes HAS gone up, they are still relatively cheap. AND filling and delicious, which is a plus. So, tonight I decided to fry up some potatoes in butter with some chopped onions and green pepper, a little bit of garlic powder, and pepper and onion powder. Nice and simple. I will also cook up some packaged fish filets which I got for a good price the last time I was at Ruler Foods. Not perhaps the healthiest dinner. But good enough and not terribly expensive. I even have some tartar sauce to slather onto the filets. Yummy stuff. What's going on your dinner table tonight? ***obviously, in the picture the potatoes are only starting cooking but done.

Hey, I could go for some of that too. If I make sandwiches for dinner I do tend to fancy them up a bit though just to make them a bit heartier.

That looks really good. I cooked meatballs with rice and gravy for dinner today, plus cabbage, fried corn bread and sweet tea.

@porwest Do you like baked cornbread better than fried? Or not cornbread of any kind?

Your meal sounds rather tasty as well. Although I will skip the corn bread.

@1creekgirl I am not a fan of cornbread of any kind. Just never struck my fancy.

I made a very good potato salad with an egg, homemade mayo and diced dilled pickles. I thawed a pork chop but was too lazy to fry it. So I´ll eat it for lunch tomorrow before going to Dixie´s house.

I never let the heat stop me from eating. That being said we have not had salad fixings in the house for a bit, mainly because for a bit we were on the go. Getting some this weekend. Love salads.

Potato is so versatile. I never mind how it is cooked.

Me either. There are no ways to eat a potato I can think of that I do not like.

Seems like a healthy enough dinner. You cook your potatoes in the skin?

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. The skin is loaded with nutrients and tasty especially when fried. Most of the time if I fry them I like to keep the skins on.

@porwest Many of the nutrients go when the potato is peeled since most of the nutrients are just under the skin.

@Kandae11 This is true. The only time I really peel potatoes is for things like scalloped or potato salad—unless I use red potatoes, then I keep the skins on for potato salad.

@porwest Do you like sauted mushrooms with them. Potatoes and mushrooms is a Russian staple. And in Ukraine and Belarus as well.

We went to Longhorn Steakhouse. I had chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, a salad and some Brussels sprouts. I wanted to tell you that hubs found the On-Cor Riblets at Walmart and bought a box. He said he's had them before. Have a great day.

@porwest We get Meals on Wheels Monday-Friday; and this weekend I had planned on having a riblet sandwich on a bun BUT we went out to Longhorn; so I had leftovers which gave me 2 leftover Meals on Wheels lunches to eat PLUS a chicken pot pie that hubs bought me...so they'll have to wait until next weekend. There's no Meals on Wheels delivery today for Juneteenth.

Chicken tenders at Longhorn? Blasphemy. lol But glad you enjoyed your dinner. Have you ever made sandwiches out of those riblets? Yummy. I like to put pickles and onions and extra barbecue sauce.

We had a hearty dinner for our family tendered by our youngest son and his wife for Father's day in one of our fave eateries at the public plaza.
