Occasions like Juneteenth but what about those Native American Children who were forcibly taken from their families and Tribes? It was still ongoing in the 1960s. Are there any documents that can tell us what happened to all these children? Were they simply put into schools where they had no parents or tribe to cling to? Did they survive? I would love to hear Biden give some kind of apology to the many tribes who were robbed of their children and not allowed to raise them as they saw fit. Those tribes were deprived of their cultural futures. The only president I'm aware of who was viciously doing his best to annihilate Native Americans was Andrew Jackson whose ruthless desire to remove Native Americans created total destruction of many tribes. I wish we had a memorial month for all those souls who needlessly lost their lives due to his order to relocate all Native Americans. And later to remove their children to place in white families where those families were supposed to raise them. I am ashamed of the way the white man has allowed this to happen, it's just as bad if not worse than slavery.

Also for their parents, I can't imagine how their mothers must have felt when the US Government took away their children, some were as young as 3 years old.

I have heard that it was also done in Canada and in Australia. Shame!

Yes, I think it was at that. Our governments should make restitution to all the tribes that they did that to. Does Chile have any kind of history like this?

I did not know it was still ongoing in the 1960... I am horrified knowing this. I did not expect this happening in your country! I think that the Canadian President apologized... it's time that an American President does the same.

It is Queen Elizabeth who should apologize, parts of Canada belong to her realm. The other part of Canada was part of France although I'm not sure if that's still the case, I only know a little about Canada. As I mentioned in my discussion, I think Biden owes the Native American tribes an apology.

As far as I know there has never been an apology from any of our US governments or presidents. The Queen was in power in the 1960s, why didn't she think to apologize to her 'subjects' in Canada?

@rebelann The British government has formally apologized for colonial crimes. It is correct that it was the British Government and not the Queen. I heard no apologies to the native Americans from an American president. I do not expect the French to apologize.

Australia has a somewhere similar history although there is probably more paperwork existing about where children were sent and what happened to them. It is indeed shameful.

If I could find out what the names of some of those children are maybe I could find documentation on them and their plight.

Happened in Canada, too, and now we have a "Truth and Reconciliation" committee.
In Canada, the process of reconciliation is tied to the federal government's relationship with Indigenous peoples. The term has come to describe attempts made...

I feel as you do. History tends to dwell on only one or perhaps 2 misdeeds of the past yet ignores the many others in humanities past.

It sure was not right at all. Taking children from their families is never good for the family. Especially the children.

Exactly and from the articles I've read many of those children were treated like slaves and that went on through the late 1960s.

What about all the land that was taken away from the Native Americans, forcing them to live on reservations? What about the Japanese that were imprisoned during the war? What about all the Jews that were slaughtered? There are many examples of people that have been discriminated against.

It's shocking. Slavery is not a new concept, it's happened to various groups for as long as humanity has existed, just look how the ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks would make slaves of people they conquered which had nothing at all to do with skin color.

It is not something the US likes to publicize but with all the fuss they make over what the Nazis did to the Jews I thought it would be a good idea to write about what a few of our presidents did to Native Americans.
