Yep, just watch the video and tell me that the US government wasn't the Borg. Oh, just in case you have no idea what the Borg are then all you'd have to do is watch parts of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I knew that Gene Roddenberry was a genius but until I saw this video about the Native Americans deprived of their biological parents I had no clue. In his own way he was trying to get the message out. Funny, isn't it, how some shows like Star Trek could easily be based on events that actually happened right here in the USA. It's a chilling story that I wouldn't want to have happen to any children unless their parents were drug addicts. None of my teachers ever mentioned this atrocity but boy did they make a big deal about the Jewish situation in the 1940s. That was an atrocity too but it happened in Germany not the USA. I think what happened to these children is the worst kind of inhumanity there is.

The Borg - yes - that's pretty much it! Resistance is futile . I only found about this in later years. I took a Chicano studies class in college and that pretty much opened my eyes to what happened in "real" history vs the kind of glorified lies we learn about in school.

@rebelann Well, Chicano refers to 2nd generation Mexicans - meaning their parents were born in Mexico and they were born in the US. Our professor was "Chicano". Although I forget exactly what the class was, he told us how history was skewed, and not all was how it seemed as we were taught in our history books. Atrocities were committed against many of the indigenous who were here long before any settlers arrived. Taking children is bad period, but there are other things like rape, lynching, etc . . . lots of "bads" that we would never ever learn about because of course that tarnishes the history of our country as we know it.

El Paso was once 80% chicano but many of their parents were illegals. Now of course those chicanos have become grandparents or even great grandparents of Americans who prefer to be referred to as Hispanic. If you were to visit here you'd hear mostly Spanlish as it's referred to, it's a mix of English and Mexican and can be fairly easy to follow along with. The trouble I have is they talk so fast I can't even hear the words they say plainly. We were still getting a lot of illegals before the pandemic which is irritating, they seem to have this idea that they want the benefits of living in America but want everyone here to speak Mexican ..... the reason I don't call it Spanish is because it really isn't Spanish anymore even when you go to Juarez.

Does Chicano studies cover the atrocities that were committed against Native Americans? I really haven't heard very much about that line of studies.

It all started with Columbus and the conquistadores. They enslaved or killed many many islanders and south Americans hoping to find gold. Then the conquistadores traveled northward from south America to western north America pillaging and killing Native tribes as they searched for gold. Then the English landed on the eastern part of north America where they set up settlements in hopes of gaining freedom from oppression but also began bringing in their slaves. They created settlements on lands that were home to the Powhatan Native Americans. There began the conflicts and the worst part is that the English were at war with the Spanish so they immediately began firing upon the natives. There are stories about what happened to the Powhatan people due to the settlement at James town one is by the Powhatan people themselves and the other is by the white people who stole land from them. I doubt we'll ever get to the real truth but it seems to me that the Native Americans paid a heavy price for those settlements like Jamestown. In 1830 president Andrew Jackson created a law to remove and rehome all Native Americans and it never ceased even into the 1960s. Disease as well as war killed thousands of Native Americans which left them with no way to fight against the soldiers the American Government sent to eradicate them.

@rebelann for the sake of gold, power, possessions many atrocities were committed. It seems to me that people at that time thought that natives didn't have feelings, they were nothing to them, it is sad.

The Jews have been persecuted for centuries so they probably understand better than most of us how these Native Americans were treated.

@rebelann Yes, they do, my husband often talks about Native Americans and feel sad for them as he feels sad for his ancestors.
