Bob called at 10 last night. Another doctor had been in. Based on what Bob said, this may have been the bone doctor. Yes, it is an abscess. Bob says it was described as being a very fine line. The doctor says he recommends IV antibiotics not surgery. Bob has requested that that should be managed through St. Lukes, here in Marion. For context, Wichita Wesley on Hillside is 57 miles. Due to road construction on all routes, it takes about 1 hr. and 15 minutes to get there. St. Lukes is about 12 miles, takes fifteen minutes. The doctor that originally sent Bob for the MRI had already talked about setting up IV antibiotics twice daily at St. Lukes, because our radiologist who read the CT scan said he believed it was an abscess. I am confident this could be handled closer to home. Maybe as an outpatient. Bob hopes it can be arranged and he can come home today. Editing with more info. Bob says that doctors are now coming in two at a time (Tuesday morning) and overwhelming him with information. It seems that before they can set up further treatment he WILL have a bone biopsy (I assume needle). Even if I had planned to go back today, I would not have been early enough for all of these doctors.

Poor Bob, I hope that the biopsy will be the end of his pain and he can come back home.

It would be nice to be treated closer to home. Biopsy will let them treat him appropriately.

I'm glad he won't have to have surgery; but a bone biopsy will be painful. Wishing him all the best.

Good, your husband, is being well looked after. Just, the distance takes a while. Hoping everything is minor and your husband gets home.

It is minor, in its way, but it is an unusual infection. Now he is home and that is good.

Makes me cringe, done with only local anesthetic, but it sure beats having surgery.

He was allowed to come home Monday night, so thirteen days in the hospital. He is doing well, still needs lots of sleep but also enjoying being outside a bit.

@GardenGerty Oh, good! I'm glad he's home and doing well. Yeah, being in the hospital is tiring, even if all you're doing is lying in bed, being waked up every so many hours for BP checks, temp checks and taking pills... You never get much rest all in one go.

He has one oral medication, and he also goes once daily for an IV medicine that takes only a half hour to go in. He will have weekly labs drawn from this same PICC line and they will change and clean the dressing as needed. He is feeling good. He can drive himself. I have been going but I will not always go.

He is back home, loving on the kitties and able to salt his food if he likes, or get more salad dressing, and no pasta. His attitude is great.
