Coulrophobia is the fear of clowns. When you have this fear. You do not want to see a person dressed up as a clown. You do not want to see an image of a clown. You do not want to see any toys that are clowns. You want nothing at all to do with a clown. When you see a clown you have anxiety and feel sick. So the only thing for you to do is to stay away from any place that will have clowns. Do not go anywhere that you know will have clowns. That way you will be safe away from seeing a person dressed up as a clown or toys that have clowns.

I've never liked clowns, and always tended to stay away. A couple of years ago people were dressing as clowns and scaring random people. I am so glad that didn't happen to me.

@misunderstood_zombie I never liked clowns either, no matter who can hide inside those dresses and that colorful face.

I missed out on that, although I have heard of it. Where did these incidents occur?

I love seeing clowns. As a child we visited circuses and enjoyed the clowns act.

I never liked clowns. I do not like anyone that wears a mask (not the surgical one)

Interestingly, the other day I had a talk with someone about the wearing of masks. We were talking about how we all wear masks, whether or not their physical masks or emotional masks. I don't care for people who are not authentic, so I've not had a problem with the wearing of a mask when it's Halloween or on stage or for those purposes. I do have a problem with people who are not authentic and try to pretend they are kind or my friend or fill in the blank. Interesting how we can start to see similarities between different situations.

It didnt, and in the original one Tim Curry didnt help at all, even while HAVING fear of clowns. Thats right, he made that guy a nightmare even though he has coulrophobia himself so in fact he was his own worst nightmare in that film.

Years ago the pastor of my church—who was a good friend of mine—had a clown-themed birthday party for his 4 year old son. Needless to say his son wanted nothing to do with the party or the clowns. I remember sitting at the table with him while they were getting ready to serve the cake, and I asked him what was wrong. He replied, “The clowns…they freak me out!” The way he said it in his little 4 year old voice was the funniest thing ever!

@moffittjc The parents should have asked the 4 year old if he wanted clowns at his party.

@jstory07 True, but even I may not have thought to ask my own child, especially if it was going to be a surprise party.

I remember an episode of Midsommer Murders, a British crime series, where the detective in it had a fear of clowns. It was his birthday, and they tried to get him over his fear, by having a clown appear at his house. They were thinking that exposure therapy might work with him, and it did a little.

He never saw himself in the costume and make up. It was a stipulation of his contract that he wouldnt. And I guess it took a truckload of guts to even try. He's a great man. He should be knighted one day lol

My husband is not afraid of clowns but he doesn't like them at all. He says he can't find it funny and even gets angry with them. He says that going to the circus to see a clown would be very tedious and that he would not hide his displeasure.
