Out and about early

I needed to get to the hospital fairly early today. Hoping that Bob would get released. I had to go to Registration and change his files since the VA has authorized this visit and will cover it. You can use either Medicare or VA but not both. I want to be sure to be early enough to see whichever doctor made rounds. I got both of those things taken care of. The doctor today says he believes it will be next week before Bob goes home. The fluid they drew is not growing anything for them to culture. Possibly because he has been on antibiotics for over a week. They may have to go in with a needle and take a sample of the infected bone. at some point they will have an infectious disease doctor take over Bob's case. It is important to know what the bacteria is so that they can treat it. Bob is not in any pain. The treatments have helped that. He is bored and frustrated and would like to be at home. This is his 9th full day.

Does Bob have any hobbies he can do while in the hospital? Play any games or read? (If he reads, you could get free ebooks for an electronic device (a phone or tablet). The site is b-ok.cc.) I'd read but I can get tired of reading after a few days, too.

He likes to read but not electronically. I need to take him several books. He just barely uses his phone. He says watching TV makes his neck hurt.

@GardenGerty Oh, I see... After we moved into this house, about 4 years ago, I had to start using my phone or tablet to read on. We just don't have room in this house for real books. I switched the reading mode on my phone and tablet to night time so my eyes didn't get so tired while using them to read.

@DaddyEvil I have only about 1/4 the books I used to have. People keep bringing in more and do not like me getting rid of them. He also likes library books.

I'm sorry he can't come home yet. But you are right, it's important to know what it is and get it treated. I hate being in the hospital, so I understand his frustration. Hang in there, Bob.

That must be difficult on you both. I hope that he can rest and that might help pass the time until his doctor discharges him.

He told the doctor how much he dislikes always being disturbed at night, so the doctor put in orders to not draw blood etc. at night and shut the door and not let the light in to wake him up. He said it went much better last night.

@GardenGerty I can believe it. I was making daily - sometimes twice daily - trips to see my mother at one stage. Half an hour each way every time so it soon gets 'old'.

@GardenGerty You don’t get any sleep in a hospital. Nurses going in and out all night. I feel for him.

Glad you got things as you'd like it. Hope your husband speedy recovery. Holy Christ, help him in every way, thank you, Christ, amen. Maybe books so he won't be too bored. Or tv?

Watching TV from his bed made his neck hurt. I kept him reading books and a puzzle book.

@GardenGerty I see. Neck excercies, helps. I play games, and cay be in one neck position, so I stop...out my neck while sitting slowly back leaving it for 2-3 seconds, then slowly right leaving it for 2-3 seconds, then left slowly leaving it for 2-3 seconds... then every 2-3 hours repeat neck excercies. Neck shouldn't give problems now. But it's up to your husband, what he'd like to do.

They were never able to get a bacteria culture, but the IV antibiotics seem to work for a wide variety of things.

Sorry to know about Bob that he is still in the hospital. I can understand how he must be feeling in the hospital where a person is not allowed to do things of his/her own without the approval of a doctor.

He will not play with a phone. If he was not on IV he could sit in his chair and watch TV. Watching it from bed made his neck stiff.I kept taking him books.
