Can You Sleep Well?

A friend called telling me that she couldn't sleep well these days. She has already been taking sleeping pills for a few years. She is considering to take one more pill. I told her not to do so because it won't help. She'll just end up taking more and more. I advised her to meditate or read and listen to some relaxing music. If necessary, seek professional counseling. I sleep about 7 hours per night. If not too busy, I take an afternoon nap. Can you sleep well? How many hours of sleep do you have per night?

I have bad sleep sometimes especially when the weather is too hot I stand up and open the air cooler and get back to sleep. If ever can`t back to sleep. I browse my facebook page and see what I can see there until I feel sleepy again.

That's good. It's getting hot in Hong Kong. Daily temperature about 33-34C. It's hot even at night time. I need to turn on my aircon to sleep.

@Beestring Good thing you have an aircon. I only have an air cooler but that`s ok. I can still feel the cool air at night.

In Kenya right now temperature is 14C, we are used to hot weather but now it's freezing , so we end up feeling sleepy to get the warm if you are not busy.

I used to sleep well but now that I am older I don't sleep well at all. I think this happens to many older people.

Do you feel tired? You mean you get up, do something and then go back to sleep again for an hour or so?

Getting up every 2 hours means that you are not in deep sleep. But at least you can always go back to sleep. Do you feel tired in the morning?

You were right to tell her not to take more pills. This is not going to help. She must find a way to relax before going to sleep.

@Beestring It is a good suggestion, the more pills she takes the more she becomes addicted and the pills are worthless.

Yes, no use taking more pills. That's why I suggested her to read or listening to some relaxing music.

I can't sleep well without sleeping aids of some sort. I guess I get about 6 hours all told. I could do yoga before bed to help but usually the falling asleep part isn't as hard as the staying asleep.

For the most part, I can sleep really well. There are some nights, when I don't sleep too well, but thankfully it doesn't happen too often.

She shouldn't have coffee or other beverages with caffeine in the evening.l don't sleep during the day so I sleep reasonably well at night. There were a few occasions when l was having problems so l started having oats for dinner - that solved the problems. I believe it is the phosphorus in the oats that promotes sleep.

Agree. I don't drink coffee or other beverages with caffeine in the evening. I believe my friend is doing this too. I'll suggest her to try oats. Thanks.

I know what it's like to have trouble sleeping. It's horrible and after living with this everyday, I started feeling sick a lot also. I hope things get better for her.

May I ask do you take the nap because you're tired or only because you have extra time. I find it difficult to nap if I'm not genuinely tired. But that's just me. Wondering can you take a nap right on the spot, ir is it because you haven't slept well the night before? Thanks :-)

I used to sleep well. I don't often take naps and at night I can sleep instantly. I like sleeping late anyway. But lately I can't sleep very well because high pressure. Since we are waiting for the news from the university and I hope my son can go to a good university. The waiting time is quite suffering.
