The Sun Sets Bright on My Old Kentucky Home and Another Trip

How about that view???? I stopped at Buc-ee’s in Richmond, Kentucky on the way out, and once again on the way back home. I love that cute beaver mascot of theirs….plus, gas was about 15c a gallon cheaper. 
And you’re probably thinking that I didn’t stay gone very long. Nope. It wasn’t my intention to be gone too long. Next weekend is a holiday weekend (Independence Day), and I definitely don’t want to be out in that mess. I figured the traffic would start picking up this week, getting worse and worse and the week progressed, until the 4th of July crowds would be everywhere by Thursday or Friday. Nah, I’ll be home for that, thank you.
I had a good time, except for one thing: my “maintenance due soon” lights came on in the car. Sheesh, didn’t I just spend a thousand bucks on giving that sucker new tires????
Part of the “joys” of car ownership.
As usual, I did my bills last night (I usually do them just before the first of the month), and I’m happy to say the roof is now 1/24th mine! It’s already paying dividends. I mentioned they lowered my homeowners insurance. When I got home there was a check from the insurance company for a $51 “rebate” from this year’s premium! So myLot helped me make $51.25!!!
As usual, y’all were great to come along for the ride. Sorry it wasn’t long or more exciting. I just wanted to “get out” for a while after all the stress of the roof and ceiling repairs. It did the trick!

Yeah, it is what it is. I’m certainly not going to give up my car because it costs me money anymore than I’d give up my house because it costs me money.
Glad you enjoyed the sunset. It was spectacular!

I always enjoy the views when we're traveling. It makes it so much nicer when I have someone along who can hold a good conversation. 
(Pretty and I spend a lot of our trips quietly looking at things along the route we're driving. We will each point things out, talk about them and then fall silent again for a while.) You are much the same as my daughter when we're on a nice trip. You point things out, talk about it and then fall silent until the next interesting thing we see.
Sorry about kicking the back of your seat. I hate riding in the back.

@DaddyEvil — truth be told, I’m enjoying quiet when I drive more and more, too. I like to pray while I’m driving, and you can’t do that and sing along with the iPod.

Sorry, I prefer it quiet while I'm driving. Talking doesn't bother me, though. Pretty usually carries her phone with something on it but she only wears one earbud so she can hear me if I talk to her.

Glad you had a safe trip. Yes, car ownership and home ownership aren't always fun but thankful we are able to have both, even when they need maintenance and repairs.
I read one of my friend's posts where her 6-7 year old wants to have a Buc-ee’s themed birthday party, which she announced at breakfast this morning. Mind you her birthday isn't until September. Can't wait to see if they go through with it

They’ve made most of our federal holidays Monday holidays so they’ll be three day weekends and allow travel. It’s just a coincidence that the 4th of July is on a Monday this year. They tried to make it a three-day weekend in the 1970s, and it went over like pork chops at a bar mitzvah.

Congratulations on owning 1/24th of your roof. Keep us updated...it will be fun when it gets to the time when the roof is half yours! I went to Buc-ees for the first time 2 weeks ago. Amazing place. The one I went to was in GA.

I also own 1/12th of my new tires!!!
Those Buc-ee’s are gigantic. I’m on Weight Watchers so I don’t want to waste points on their Beaver Bites, but people tell me they’re addictive. And the mascot is too cute!
