With surveillance, law enforcement, insurance company, teaching, job recruitment, banks, and colleges using algorithms we need to take an interest in what this means. Algorithms that are taught by humans, and written by humans, also pick up the bias that humans have in different areas. This leads to racial and gender discrimination which we are trying to leave behind.
In China, there is a social credit score. Whatever is said or determined by you will affect both you and your friends and family. It is like obedience training.
Facial recognition is a scary format used in the world today also. Police use facial recognition and if the algorithm is biased it can cause each and every one of us problems in the future. Put on watch lists because we look a certain way or even arrested because we look like someone. Think of all of the ramifications this can have on us and our families and friends.
In the UK there is a program GDPR(General Data Protection Regulation) where citizens have the right to access and control how data is used. But, why doesn't anything like this exists in the U.S.? We need to have a system in place that makes these companies that use AI be audited and reviewed on a regular basis. Regulators say that this is coming soon but is it?
As of the writing of this post there is no regulation on this subject in the U.S.

The Us. Doesn't like to tell its people 'never going to happen', so they stick with the just false promise of 'maybe?"

I didn't either until I saw the documentary. It's scary and I want to know how such things affect me.
