Penzey's Spices This Weekend

Penzey's Spices is a store that sells nothing but spices, and the wifey and I will be going there this weekend to have a look. I have never been there. Partly because they are very expensive and also because I do not like the owner of the company. But I have a gift card that I got from my niece last Christmas for $50, so I will not let that go and will spend it. The closest one to me is in Maplewood, Missouri about 35 minutes away. We have to pick up a few things at Walmart so we figure we may as well just go the Walmart over there. If nothing else it should be a nice little change of venue.

I always make it a point to make sure I use them no matter what. It is amazing to me that over $3 billion every year of gift cards go unused. That's astounding.

@LindaOHio I would gladly take them. There are actually several companies that buy unused or unwanted gift cards for pennies on the dollar and resell them. It's a huge business.

Love Penzey’s and their politics! I recommend their pork chop seasoning and the Chicago steak seasoning. Fox Point is good mixed into scrambled eggs.

I've had their spices before received as a Christmas present and my sister still uses them I don't know that I ever got around to using them much if at all though. I hope your had a nice time shopping.

My shopping time was miserable. I felt I was in a liberal consortium of weirdos. But I got what I wanted and will never return to their store nor support Penzey' Spices ever again.

Penzey's is a Wisconsin based business and operates mostly in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota I think, Missouri and maybe some others. Bill Penzey is the owner and he's a nut case.

@lovebuglena Penzey's Spices does well enough. But I do wonder how much better it would do if he shut up about his politics and just focused on the business. Many conservatives refuse to shop in his stores.

I have heard the product is good, and while I hate to line this nut job's pockets, the gift card unspent is the same thing—so I might as well just spring for it regardless of my thoughts on the guy who owns the business.

I know nothing about the company, but I would love to visit a spice store with gift card in hand. Just looked at their website - ah, now I see . Apparently there's one 30 miles from us - next time I'm out that way I'm gonna check it out !

There is a shop in the city that sells herbs and spices and a lot of Asian ingredients that I've never heard of. The aromas in the shop, and on the pavement outside, are amazing.
