The Shouting Guy is Shouting. Do I go in?

You know that I am a Ph.D. psychologist, and that one of my specialties is conflict resolution. You also know that there's a guy out there who shouts the night away. There's an internal logic to what he shouts, but he's obviously schizophrenic. I have called 911 in him a few times, but nothing has happened. His social worker must be on permanent vacation. He's out there shouting now, making it hard for me to learn the intro lead to Guns 'n Roses's Sweet Child of Mine. Should I go in? I am no stranger to crazy people. I believe I could get him to talk to me. But I could be wrong. What would you do?

If that were happening here, I'd call the police station again. If nobody showed up in a reasonable amount of time, depending on what the guy is shouting and whether I feel like listening to him, I'd start calling the police in our city at home until one of them actually showed up. (I have gotten them so upset with me calling them at home when they didn't show up that they threatened to arrest me if I called any of them again. I called the city mayor and a police officer showed up and took care of the problem. Thankfully, I've never had to do that again.) If you believe you can calm the man down and get him to stop shouting, then carefully go ahead. Please be ready to get a door between you and him as quickly as possible, just in case. Good luck, pony. Please do let us know what your decision is tonight. (Hopefully not from a hospital bed!)

Just do what any red-blooded American would do....go over there and shoot him! Haha, just kidding of course. Maybe your professional expertise is exactly what he needs. And then if that doesn't work, you could always resort back to my original plan.

I have this image from an old movie where a cowpoke is having a soak in a tin bath and shooting at critters with his long-barrel six-shooter...

I´d call the police or, if you know that he is schizophrenic, a hospital.

He stopped yelling right after I wrote this post. So I wound up practicing some piano before going to bed.

@MALUSE I think a hospital would say "call the police." I've already done that a few times. Nothing has changed.

I would stay away from him as long as he is not hurting anything.

Schizophrenics do not go out shouting. Their mental problems are serious and deep, symptoms that I know very well as my sister in law was schizophrenic. She was not dangerous, she could suddenly become irritable, confused, but she never shouted. Of course her vision of the reality was another matter. Poor woman.

Maybe that guy needs your expertise. In our neighborhood, there's a lot of shouting guy at night because they're drunk.

I'm glad we don't have a lot of drunk people around here. Except me. But I'm a quiet drunk.

Is he dangerous? Take Kitty with you for protection, and maybe the squirrel, too, as backup. Take care.

I would yell at him. I'm that way. You could call the non-emergency police number and explain your concerns to them. Perhaps there is something they can do or direct you to that would help.

If I had seen an interesting wave, I would have examined it, unless of course it was a tsunami. In that case I would have tried to get away as fast as possible. If he starts screaming again and you are interested in trying, you might be able to make a difference. Follow the call of your PhD :-) I suppose that if you talk to him, you should be able to figure out pretty quickly if he's dangerous or not.

I certainly would not go to see what's up not with my anxiety and I don't know what to suggest to you but perhaps you could just make sure the guy is all right,

I don't think you should interfere. You could get yourself in trouble. Call 911.

What would I do, probably run. police and what not big on someone telling them someone might be more qualified to handle situation being I had PHD like you. Maybe no one called them yet, what can it hurt then. Police just escalate crap anyway.

One of the drawbacks to intervening is the liability you might be assuming should something go horribly wrong. Instead of calling the cops, call for an ambulance if possible.
