Roast Chicken Served with its Head On - Will You Feel Uneasy?

Sometime ago, my nephew and his wife, a Canadian, visited Hong Kong from Canada. My brother invited me to join their lunch at a Chinese restaurant. We've ordered a whole roast chicken. The chicken, complete with head and feet, was served. When my nephew's wife saw the chicken's head, she almost screamed and dare not to look at the chicken. We immediately took the head away. Will you feel uneasy if the chicken is served with its head on? I'm wondering if this is an individual or cultural thing.

I would leave the restaurant. Why would they serve it like that? I've seen someone serve a fish complete with head still attached and walked away from the table.

Because some Chinese consider this as a symbol of completeness and togetherness.

@jobelbojel I could not eat, I feel bad enough looking at a whole roasted chicken, imagine if it has the head still on.

@flapiz pig head on is something I can tolerate but not chicken because ai am used to seeing pig being served with head on during birthday party, company party and/or wedding. Especially they put apple in its mouth.

I eat meat occasionally as I dont like an animal to be killed for me. I also would have left the table if the chicken is served in this condition.

I no longer eat meats- chicken l might have occasionally, but traditionally the head is removed. Some people buy the feet separately and make soup.

I'm sorry I would not be able to eat there after seeing that. It is obviously a cultural way to serve a chicken as I have not heard of that. It is best to respect such cultural habits, but I think that I would have a difficult time with that and I can understand why she reacted the way that she did.

I am sure it would not have any impact other than it would not LOOK appetizing. I would prefer the head not be on either when I am served a chicken.
