Is Covid returning?

It's in the TV news that the number of new Covid cases is on the rise. Not only in faraway states but also in our home state Bengal. My medico daughter informs that some of her batchmates have been found covid- infected. They have left the hostel to be treated at their homes. My child can't just leave her hostel at this juncture. Her fourth term exams will be held after 21 days. She can't afford to come home and lose her valuable preparation time. People in the southern Bengal have abandoned their face masks. Will they have to wear them again? What is the Covid situation in your country?

It is still around . Because people have tossed aside their masks and are partying again.

You're right in saying they are partying. The virus looks for such happy crowds.

In fact it has never left us. It was only lying low. It is very likely going to stay with us.

The veterans hospital has the covid alert as “high.” It’s not getting much news coverage here in America because of the January 6 hearings, the mass shootings, etc. I think they’ve said it’s “endemic” now, meaning it’s at the stage where it’ll “always” be around just not as fatal as it was originally. The 1918 pandemic was, they say, caused by the H1N1 virus. That’s still around today, over 200 years later. It’s just not killing people with the speed it did originally.

Oh Covid is back in Scotland my friend big time Last week it was thought that 1 in 15 of us was infected Hospitalizations are up So much for the vaccine being effective against these two new Omicron variants I think ti's only a matter of time before masks are back on the menu here in Scotland Very sorry to hear that cases are on the rise there too

We are also seeing an increase in cases of covid this month in Brazil. Masks are being used again. Vaccines have helped a lot, but there is still a lack of awareness among the population.

@JimBo452020 I hope not but a lot of people have ditched their masks. A person looks strange in a mask now, where I live.

People in our place have thrown away their masks. Maybe the virus is ready to sneak on them.

I think it won't be long before we are all wearing masks again. Other than a lockdown masks may be needed to help slow the spread And they won't lock us down again

The cases are increasing here in Delhi too. Still, the people here are not wearing face masks and they have almost forgotten what precautions they should take to defeat the virus.

The WHO has been warning that this virus will never leave us and so take the proper measures, but people are being careless by moving around without masks and not maintaining social distancing. In our city the surge is less as they are still enforcing the protocol.

Hope your daughter's situation stays safe. Just this evening news, 2 new omicron variants sweeping America...BA. 4 & BA. 5 omicron new variants. News said it's fast spreading. I don't take chances, I wear double mask and a shield when out and about. I spray Lysol spray, kills covid-19 virus & other virus, everyday.

Covid, in my opinion, has never left us; they are simply adapting to survive, just like the rest of us. Since they have already become a part of us and occasionally mutate, it may become stronger or weaker as time goes on, I believe it will take some time before we can totally get rid of them.

It never was really gone and I think it isn't going away anytime soon. When people fail to follow the minimum health safety protocol we are putting ourselves again at risk of infection and increasing the number of cases. Cases are just a cycle of drop-rise, rise-drop.

We had a mass vaccination here in India and hopefully that would help in controlling the infection or at least not making it bad like the previous waves. People should take all precautions and safety measures. The virus is still lurking around and can not be undermined. I heard the news about some new sub variant of Omicron and it's detected in India along with 10 more nations. Luck and best wishes for your daughter
