Are You Hungry Tonight: Royal Wedding Cake!

I mentioned in my earlier post on the book titled, "Are You Hungry Tonight?" which contains Elvis Presley's favorite recipes that one of them took my by surprise. That recipe was the The Royal Wedding Cake from Elvis and Priscilla's wedding. The photo shown shows the actual wedding cake, which contained 6 layers and served up to 500 people. Elvis and Priscilla got married in Las Vegas on May 1, 1967 at 9:40 am. There was only a handful of people present for the actual wedding, but lots of guests were invited to the reception and banquet, which was also held at the Aladdin Hotel & Casino where the wedding took place. This recipe is very detailed and gives instructions for baking the whole cake and how to reduce the recipe for just baking individual one, two or three tier cakes. The recipe also gives instructions and the recipe for the icing, which was called the Meringue Royal Icing. The icing is only used for decorating the cake. Decorating the cake is also discussed, as well as instructions as to how to make the lattice work and rose patterns. The frosting is an entirely different recipe. There are also instructions (and great tips) for how to frost the cake and also assemble the cake. This was my favorite cookbook in the whole box and I have enjoyed reading through it. It was worth the $5 I paid for the whole box of cookbooks! Photo Credit: Taken from the book by me.

I just cut a watermelon for our supper tonight but I'd love a piece of cake with icing on it. (I'm just too lazy to drive to the store and buy some cake.)

I'm wondering what happened to the photo!! I'm fixing to go make a salad. I was supposed to have it with dinner but wasn't really that hungry then. I could go for a nice piece of cake too! Always room for cake!

@kareng If you want to go pick up some cake, I'll pay for the cake if you drop us off some of it here.

@DaddyEvil Ha! Driving that far to deliver it, it would be very iffy if it was still in the box when I got there!

Although I haven´t baked for ages, I´d love to have that recipe. Elvis was my very own love and I´d be happy to make a small wedding cake in the memory of the King.

That is one of the suggestions in the book, make the cake in memory of the King!! I'll see if I can enlarge photos enough to read them and not blurry. It will be Tuesday or so because I have to enter inventory into the boutique system this afternoon/evening and then I work there tomorrow.

I may bake a layer in the winter. It's too hot to bake right now. Our temps have been running from 92F to 98F with heat index over 100 and up to 115F this past week. The humidity is horrible also. You can't breathe outside for long; plus you are soaking wet from sweating if you stay longer than 5 minutes.

@LadyDuck That is hot without any AC! Today when I passed by the Co-Op in Clinton, LA on the way to the boutique, the temperature on their sign read 98F! It was hot! We have had too many days of this--this is the second week. Thankful for the little rain shower we got late this evening. It dropped the temperature down into the 70's.

@kareng I also do not bake right now and I also avoid to cook food that needs a long cooking time. Our temperature reached 90 F the past week that is very high for us, but the humidity is very low. Thursday and Friday we could see the thermometer reach 95 F, I hope they are wrong, we have not the habit here (and no one has A/C).

@kareng Our nephew married a girl with rich parents. At the reception, they had a cake but also another 'cake' which was made up of rounds of cheeses. It was five or six tiers, each getting smaller and would have fed 500 too.

After reading this post, I'm craving a cake. I'll go the cake shop nearby to get a chocolate cake for afternoon tea.

That's cool! I wouldn't buy a box of cookbooks though, mine overflow and honestly, I couldn't tell you the last time I made a recipe out of one. I look up what I want to make online. I do like to look at the pictures in cookbooks though, as I am a major foodie.

The wedding cake recipe takes up about six pages! The other recipes were just one or two pages if a photo was included of full page. It is quite amusing and entertaining!

Even at 500 that is a lot less than you would expect! I didn't care for her wedding dress (see photo). It looked like a maternity wedding dress, although she wasn't pregnant at the time. She was such a pretty young lady.
