An 88-year-old played in our softball game last night!

I have been on the Scouts for more than 20 years. The team has been around since something like the 1960s. They're based in Orinda CA and are a good team with classy and talented players on the team. I enjoy playing on this team. Last night, only 9 people showed up for a game against a weaker team. But our old Coach, Jerry, showed up to watch. We was a star on the Scouts back in the 1960s and 1970s. He's 88, and in good shape. He still plays tennis and golf at least twice a week. We razzed him a bit but eventually got him to play! He played catcher and batted last. He made contact every at-bat and actually got a single to left in the later innings. When I worry about "getting older," I'm gonna keep thinking of Coach Jerry.

Nice one Jerry. Proof, it were needed, that you don't stop because you get old, you get old because you stop. Our group of football (soccer) players consists of a 73 year old, two guys in their mid 60s and 4 of us in our late 50s. We do balance that out with a few youngsters in their 20s and 30s. We haven't had to resort to walking football just yet!!

@TheHorse That's my main problem now. Recovering from any injuries. What used to take a day or two to brush off can now take a week.

Well said! You get old when you stop. OK, I bruise easier than I used to. But I don't care.

I have heard about some people that live a healthy lifestyle, eat healthy, don't smoke or drink, see the doctor regularly and die of a heart attack in their 50's and 60's.

I love it when "older" folks still do what they love to do. I remember an older couple I met hiking in the mountains of Glacier Park...

thats very inspiring. i know some people who are barely in thier 40s but thier bodies are so beat up, they look and move like a fragile 90 something year old.

Yes, that's right. I too get my inspiration from people older than me who are still fit and fine and keep themselves active.

He's definitely one to admire. I wish I could be that lucky. I am 74 and can't stand for a minute or walk more than 50 feet. I hope you are in as good a shape as he is at that age.
