The growing family

So a couple of weeks after I first found the pigeon’s nest, I discovered the eggs had hatched. Several times I had peeped out of the window but the pigeon wouldn’t budge from her nest – of course this is where the phrase ‘sitting tight’ comes from! But then one morning the wind caught the window as I was looking out, causing it to crash open, and she flew away – and there were two, already half-grown, chicks! I could barely glimpse them through the leaves but of course I ran to grab a camera and managed to hold the leaves aside with a stick while I took a photo. You can just see them in one corner, although they are hard to make out. One is facing one way and the other, the opposite. After I took the photo I left and soon mother pigeon was back and watching me from above as I worked in the garden. All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2022.

The babies are cut. I remember that my cousin raised a sparrow inside her apartment. She found the baby sparrow on the balcony, she took care of her and the sparrow never left.

@Fleura My cousin loves animals so much. She called the sparrow and she flew in her hand.

Wow that's amazing! It isn't easy to raise a chick.

Won't be long before they are making their own way in the world. Soon be an empty nest, I guess

When I was young, I used to raise a pigeon. And it was rather lovely. I miss it so much when I saw your picture.

That was a bit of luck to be able to get a photo of the nestlings. Won't be long and they'll be flying away.

They look like just some fluff caught up in the twigs.
