There has been some deadly flooding in Kentucky that has made national news. I’ve had a few friends contact me online, concerned about the weather here where I live.
Louisville is in north-central Kentucky, right on the Ohio River. While we’ve had quite a bit of rain lately, there hasn’t been anything close to the tragedy being experienced in the mountainous region of eastern Kentucky.
I’m actually closer to the flooding in St. Louis “as the crow flies” than Whitesburg.
Thanks for the kind concerns. We’re fine in Louisville, but do remember those people in eastern Kentucky. It’s a nightmare there.

I was getting enough queries that I thought I’d better post. I appreciate the concern, too. I’m always happy to see the regulars from the Philippines or India post after I hear about bad news there. I’m not geographically astute about my own country, let alone theirs!

“Sound” is something I’ve never been accused of being
but I’m thankful, too, that we haven’t had any major issues here.

Glad you are ok. My son's friend graduated from The Cumberlands University in Williamsburg Kentucky, in the Southern more eastern area. How is that area? Have you heard?

A friend of mine is a professor there at U of the C. His daughter-in-law said the Williamsburg area wasn’t hit too badly.

Thank you. I do that all the time: I’ll see some news item from Australia, especially Western Australia, and worry about you. I know that Western Australia is huge, but my dear mother of blessed memory was a worrywart and she deeply instilled that in me.

@FourWalls When I first came to Bubblews then here, I'd read about a US state and have no idea where it was so I got to and learnt where all the states were then I learnt all their capitals (although I've forgotten some of them now). Now, if someone says it's snowing in Montana then I know not to ask someone from Florida if it's snowing there too!!!

Happy for you that you are safe. Being stuck in a flooded area is dangerous.

Absolutely. I was watching coverage from a TV station in eastern Kentucky when the rain started, and they were moving their cars because the rain was flooding their parking lot.

@FourWalls Living in south Louisiana I have seen the same deal with cars being moved to higher grounds when a flood warning is in play.

So glad & relieved you're ok! Yes, prayers for those going through a lot...saw news about it, pitiful. People in Kentucky, it was fast & furious, no time for getting to safety. Sad!!!

That’s the worst thing about the mountains. They funnel the rain down, there’s no getting away, THEN you have a fear of mudslides.

I have a friend who’s a professor at a college in southeast Kentucky, but not near the worst of the flooding.

The front isn’t forecast to move through until Monday. Right now it’s stalled by the Tennessee border, where the flooding problems are, but it’s supposed to move back up toward us on Sunday.

@FourWalls I have seen some photos online and it is horrible. Some places have no water and some places have floods. It is insane.

Hoping all are safe and found soon. We seen video on the news and it looks devastating. Happening in the night made it even more dangerous.

I was reading an article on AP News where someone said they’d been spending the night moving things to higher ground, but they were running out of “higher ground.”

Desert areas are very dangerous with heavy rains, and so are areas in the mountains because of the fear of landslides.

I fear the worst isn’t over. More rain; and, because it is mountainous, the fear of landslides.
