Instead of increasing prices which may lower the sales, the businesses choose to make the product smaller, lesser etc, I noticed this in the size of bread . So for the same amount of money, we get less quantity of the product. They are expecting recession and it becomes very likely to happen as a self fulfilling prophecy. I say to myself eat less, it is good for the health.

I guess that is the best thing to do since consumers will most likely buy less when prices are high. But they may buy if the product is shrunk but sold at the same price. Everyone has really had to tighten their belts for the economic struggles we are facing now.

Apart from the lower product amounts, we also see Non-standard sizes. 90 g instead of 100. 40 g instead of 50. Even when I go outside to eat, Restaurants sometimes reduce the size of the portion if they keep the prices at the same level.

@yoalldudes Clever tactics by Product sellers. Also they tend to create a hype that their margins are down but they manage to make out more profits in this way and get away with a lot of things!

That's been happening to bags of sugar here for years. You used to buy bags of sugar weighing 5 lbs (2.26 kg) for a certain price... then, several years ago all the bags of sugar were still priced the same but now weigh 4 lbs (1.81 kg). Companies are always lowering how much we get for the same price here.

@yoalldudes We bought a 10 lbs bag (4.53 kg) bag six months ago for a little more than the 4 lbs bag price and it should last us a year and a half or more. We don't use much sugar at all.

You might have to expect further shrinkage. Our sugar here are in 1kg, 1/2 and 1/4 kg. I think they chose to increase the price over shrinking it.

You are witty indeed and its the same in India. Yes, if we eat a little less we would not gain weight and not fall sick.

@aninditasen I guess it depends on one's condition and not accept everything one hears but also try to tailor to ones condition. I remember hearing this lesson of not accepting every teaching as is from him as wel but that it is situational. Just my opinion.

I only got this idea from Indian mystic Sadhguru who said there is a person who said what he do to have a long life is walk barefoot and eat less.

Speaking about quantity, as years go by, I also notice in many places, restaurants, even until the packaging of the food and other items, more need to pay, but smaller portions.

That's very common in this country especially in the size of the Pandesal because bakeries are very well aware that filipinos would complain in the increase of prices of commodities but won't complain when they reduce the size instead. It's one way of tricking consumers in a legit way.

I think it's a good strategy as the consumers won't buy their product at an increased rate so they decreased the amount of the product instead of the rates.

In the end, we will have to spend more because we will use up these items pretty faster and have to buy again sooner depending on the product but especially on essentials.

I think twice before eating Gardenia because they are close to expiry date and I feel bad if it gets wasted. We live in an island so there is still transport time for the bread. Do you know how much it is now?

Better that way than double the price. We need to spend and live within our means or no means at all
